Dream Race is always rainy.

Disliking rainy weather seemed to have no effect on her chocobo's performance. If it did, it was extremely minimal. My chocobo got stuck in the mud just as much if not more with my record(although I'm sure it's really about the same chance). I'd be willing to just assume it doesn't have a noticeable effect on races, and is mainly meant for digging/riding on the field.

Honestly, I don't even know why I started it, maybe because TwinRidill is always such a cocktrolley and loves to use Gysahl Bombs that I wanted to get down the tactics of the various birds that you will see in the free races.

Any thoughts about how useful this could be or changes and what not before I continue it? Like do different nations have different ringers and scrubs?

That's a good idea. Back before I had my current racing bird ready to use, my first racer (8/8/1/1) used to lose to a couple of the "regular" birds every few races. I had meant to check all the normal birds and write down their stats and stuff, but I never got around to it.

And semi-related: I was happy to notice that my current racer beats the supers as often as my former racer lost to the normals -- and never once has current bird lost to a normal yet. All it takes is one or maybe two negative items to hit a super bird and I can beat it.

Like do different nations have different ringers and scrubs?

As far as I know, they're all the same.

I used to want to strangle him too until i finally had the chocobucks to get my bird's receptivity to level 3. Now his attacks rarely, if ever touch me.

I'm pretty sure they're all the same for every nation. I race out of Bastok and those are the chocobo's i always see in free races.

Weather preferences might be influenced by what weather is present when you take your bird for walks. An actual Sunny preference (as opposed to merely Clear) is kind of interesting though. Possible guess at influences include Sunny (not Clear & Cloudy) weather, Daytime walks, and a very low frequency of other weather effects during his walks.

I have not yet tried to actually raise a choco with a particular weather preference, so this is still a guess.

Meriphataud Mountains can have both Sandstorms and Sunny Weather. I strongly believe it's not walks, but rather Digging for Treasure that did it for both my bird and my friend's. Mine decided to like Sandstorms on a day when I had not taken it for walks for a long time(I stopped doing walks when I got Curious story off Brutus). My friend's is the same, decided to like Sunny Weather literally weeks after she had stopped taking her choco on walks(she got her curious story really damn early, lucky). We both had our chocobos digging for treasure for days prior. The chocobo on the third character we share never developed a liking to any weather other than Clear, we raised all 3 the same way pretty much.

Has anyone else had trouble meeting Brutus? I've done a long walk for 24 days straight and only meet him once, and that damn windy trainer twice. What recept. do you need to meet him often? My bird's stats are 8/7/3/3 + gallop.

On a happy note, I finally was able to beat one of the supper birds in free races.

Yes, I had trouble meeting him, I didn't meet him for the first time until like day 50-something, but then I met him again 2 days later and finally 1 day after that for the story. Was weird, but yeah it can be quite a pain.

I'm currently with the Bastok racing team, Windurst is always first on Fenrir, I was wonder can I change racing teams (after I blow all my chocobucks of course), and save up for the 100 tokens if I need to? Or did SE implement some silly rule about your choco needing to have been in that stable even if it's retired. Thanks!

8/7/4/4 is possible and likely. Technically 8/8/4/4 is also possible but only if you are exact with no mistakes as to where you put your points, as 1 point more in any category would make it impossible. Mine is 8/6/4/4 but only because I've capped Strength to the point where further chocobucks upgrades aren't allowed(you can get higher than 8, approx. enough of another full level, but it will still be First Class).

Also, yes you can change racing teams, do use up your chocobucks before you do as I don't think they transfer.

Honestly, I don't know, but I figured I wouldn't mind giving up a level of endurance to try it out. I haven't been able to race it long enough to know nor do I have a suitable chocobo or experience with one to compare it to.

Does anyone know why a bird in the stable would show up as 8/7/4/4, show up listed in the free races as 8/7/4/4, but show up listed as 8/7/4/3 in the once a day races in the circuit?

My current bird is doing this and it didn't happen with my last one.

You are probably using a saddle which lowers Rec and raises something else.

It seems that Rec is just barely into C, the saddle pushes it back to D, and something else isn't close enough to the next level for the saddle to push it to the next level.

Which saddle are you using?

The effects of certain items used during chocobo races have been adjusted.

This was included in the September 2008 version update message. I haven't done much racing since the patch, so don't have any idea on what was changed, however. Taking a wild guess would be that they scaled back some of the potency adjustments that were made in the June update.

They have been in since the update before the June update, afair (otherwise they came with the June update). An ingredient of the Potages which unlearn abilities.

So far my data about the races is inconclusive, I think I'm winning more often in the Circuit races (or it's currently lucky week).

Windy has had a crap selection of saddles this week. Wish I could race without one. >> Will try using a different one next race and see what happens.
