So happy! My first C1 race ever!

Raising this bird was so much RL work (not to mention gil!), but it's so very worth it. :D
Now if only I could win the Dream Race!![]()
From what I've seen, your Chocobo should be fully capable of it. Expect a lot of tries before it happens, however. In my case I used a Pepper Biscuit to stop Sakura's Dream Apple sprint, but expect lots of resists and mis-targets if you go that route.
Two Chicks at the Same Time!
Congrats, Thistle! Hopefully I won't have any trouble with the C1 race either. I've only just recently started circuit races so I don't even have enough victory points to do C3 yet.
As for Sakura, yeah it's mainly all luck. Gotta hope Sakura gets hit by a lot of detrimental effects. Personally I had better luck with Speed Apple, see what works for you. I found that I came second and only lost by a little when I tried with Speed Apple, with Sakura not getting slowed down much. So I figured I could keep trying until lady luck saw fit to shine upon me(lol choco racing guy) until I won, and I did. Was my 4th or 5th try, stats again were SS/A/D/C and gallop only at the time. Then again you could apply the same principle to Pepper Biscuit.
I would be alot more excited to try more Circuit stuff if it wasn't freaking 24 hours for another race. WE GOTTA LET ALL THE RACERS HAVE A SHOT, GUYS. Such BS. Not to mention the fact I started racing so long ago I probably lost all my Victory Points.
Thanks for the advice on the dream race, guys. I've made two attempts so far, one with a pepper biscuit and one with a stamina apple (came in 2nd and 3rd), so yeah, going to keep trying until I succeed! I'm only going to make one attempt a day though, so I don't have to go insane making chocobucks -- I've had enough of that already!
Each time you get to a higher race, it seems to be faster to get to the next level. Seems like it took me forever to go from C4 to C3, then shorter to C2, and getting to C1 seemed darned fast. Hopefully it'll go the same for you!
Dear people good with chocobo stuff,
I have ok Chocobos, and people ask me about how to raise theirs, when in reality, I really don't know all that much about it. For the love of all things bright and beautiful, go here:

And please make these pages explode with useful information and other good stuff. Seriously, these pages have made me very sad for a long time, I am begging you to make them not sad. (I just want to say "I don't know the answer to that chocobo question, go check our Wiki" at least once in my life.)
Oops double post. Delete if possible

I need some better luck for the Dream Race. 0/6. ~.~
1) Rain, pepper biscuit, final spurt. 3rd place.
2) Rain, stamina apple, final spurt. 2nd place.
3) Rain, stamina apple, final spurt. 3rd place.
4) Rain, speed apple, final spurt. 3rd place.
5) Rain, gyshal bomb, final spurt. 2nd place.
6) Rain, stamina apple, final spurt. 2nd place.
8/7/4/4 gallop/canter bird. I wish I could just beat this so I could stop wasting chocobucks on it.
I think I'll go back to offensive, yeah. Attempt #8: Rain, Keep pace, stam apple. Came in third place. ><
That's it for my attempts tonight. So much time and gil spent so far. :/ I really could use some luck. In all my eight races, I've only seen an offensive item work on Sakura once (this last race, which actually got my hopes up).
Stayed up late to make attempt #9. Keep Pace, Pepper biscuit. Failed again.
This is so amazingly frustrating. That's 450 chocobucks wasted so far on this race alone. Shoot me now.
I remember trying Keep Pace the first few times I did it and it wasn't doing anything for me with a bunch of different items. I thought I had bad luck having to do it five times. x.x
I can't really work out how the luck factor works either, because I know Sakura didn't get hit with all the negative effects possible in the attempt I won. I think I might have even gotten nailed with the Fire Biscuit towards the end.
The 14th try is not the charm.
Five more attempts at this damned Dream Race tonight, bringing my total up to 14 attempts. No success.
10: Keep Pace / bomb. 2nd place.
11: Keep Pace / Pepper. 2nd place.
12: Keep Pace / bomb. 3rd place.
13: Keep Pace / bomb. 3rd place.
14: Keep Pace / bomb. 3rd place.
I noticed my bird uses its item really early on, almost the first one to do so, so using single-target negative items never hit Sakura.
So far I've spent 14 hours and 238,000 gil on free races just for attempts on this one race. I'm about to give up. Hell, I'm about to quit FFXI.
I'd wonder if it was my bird's lack of big tail/feet, except in all of my attempts, Sakura has only ever been effected by negative items twice total. Could I really just be having that bad of luck though?
I can't put into words how frustrating this is. My bird is 8/7/4/4 gallop/canter. Birds with worse stats have won it in a fraction of the attempts I've made. This is killing me.
That sucks >_<
Have you come close at all with Speed Apple? Not talking about your placing, but rather how close you were to Sakura. I wasn't always second, but still noticed I was usually not far behind. I'd have to look up my logs but I think I mostly came in 3rd, sometimes second.
Honestly though it's probably just a really bad luck streak![]()
Also, I think, or at least in my experience, Dream Race is always rainy? Or at least usually.
