Changing xbox 360 version text size

So while downloading the lastest update for FFXI my laptop starts smoking and dies. Saved the hardrive and laptops still under warrenty so that wont be a problem. Last time I had to send in my laptop for repairs it took hp 3 mounths to get it back to me so i did not want to wait that long this time and bought the 360 version of FFXI. Installed and updated fine and the graphics are great the only problem is the text box is way too big. I went to the systems setting on the dashboard to try to change it but those dont work since i do not have an HDTV. So my questions are these. Do you have to have an HDTV to get smaller text (i think it has to do with resolution but the graphics are fine just the text and text box way too big) on the 360 version? Will a converterbox work or do i have to buy a new HDTV? Also when TVs go digital only will we still be able to play games on them or will they be totally useless?

I believe you do need a higher resolution other than 480 inorder to obtain non-PS2 $#|+7 graphics

Text-size is directly related to the displayed resolution.

So nope, you're stuck with the large-text and claustrophobic interface that PS2 users enjoy so much.
(at least it's more readable on the 360 at any rate with its improved graphical clarity)
