Re: 1 week impressions of the patch

I think the update's biggest perk is it's showing how lazy some people have gotten when it comes to having to work for gear instead of stand around for three hours and play something else while waiting for a bot to claim a mob for you. I'm sure if Ridill or D-ring dropped from T4 and T5 ZNM's, the bitching would be cut short.

It's not even HARD, but you would never know with all the QQ. For once in years, SE puts in a system which drops pretty damned good gear for a slew of jobs and allows even the smallest LS to enjoy some higher tier combat and with monsters that aren't complete push-overs and what happens? More QQ.

    It's disgusting.

Re: 1 week impressions of the patch

ZNM: I am extremelly happy with them. Gathering points was much easier than I expected, and I've found myself gathering over a thousand in short periods between events where you'd otherwise idle in your moghouse. I see it abit like gathering pop items for sky gods, but they made it completely soloable and less repetative. The steep price for soultrappers is a little annoying.

The novelty of the NM's will soon wear off as the fights become abit easier with practice, but as it is the fights are much more fun and creative than many others in the past. And the drop pools are actually decent, with many pieces being actually useful. Even if Enkidu's gear really is ugly.

As a whole, I love this system.

Ixion and Sandworm: I haven't had the time to do either of these, although I want to. I love the idea of sandworm, and how they've managed to keep it from being bottable. And the creativity of sandworm makes me interested just reading the thread we have here.

New Merits: From preliminary testing, Slow II Level 5 added 2 seconds on a two minute recast spell compared to a Slow II level 3 test. When I have time I will test it more, but it seems there is an increase in % slow, however minimal it is. This makes me quite happy. And two minute feint, hell yea.

Edit: Einherjar Fix: Love the ability to enter the fight with only 3 wings cleared. No more repeat chambers ftw! Somewhat dislike that it's far too easy now than it was, but not so much that I don't think it was a good fix.

Commence QQing unrelated to the patch: My only complaint is that I have no time for these things, not because I'm too busy enjoying other parts of the game but because we're stuck doing events that take two to three hours (that's 50% of my play time on weekdays) for items with frustratingly low drop percentages or minimal rewards. And these events are still necessary, because doing away with them would limit a great deal of endgame content for the game itself, and we simply cannot afford to miss out on the rewards as an endgame linkshell.

In the inevitability of picking and choosing events, I would love to be able to do all of these events but the god awful time it takes to do dynamis burns into my free time like a festering wound. That isn't to say I don't enjoy doing it, and helping my companions get relics, but dear god if it were shorter I would actually have time to farm and explore and enjoy fun parts of the game much more. All I can really say is, dynamis is fun sometimes, it was fun for the first two years, but the replay value is getting worn out because of what a timesink it is.

And although salvage is extremelly enjoyable as a whole to me, the 2/163 droprate we experienced on the most in demand piece in our group is IRRITATING to say the least (I'm currently 0/I stopped counting after 40 on the piece I want the most).

My level 50 friend is "PLing" my Golem to 50, earning 100j a round in a cage all to ourselves. It's great!

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that approximately two people will actually take my advice, and they're probably on some redneck server like Quetz.

Re: 1 week impressions of the patch

I think it's a pretty good update all around. The biggest indicator it was good to me was the fact that Nidhogg died yesterday morning and I didn't even know till the linkshell that killed it asked me for a cursed cuirass (I will take this time to bitch that there are now 2 linkshells on our sever that are 1/1 on D.Rings, and we're 1/55......)

WoTG missions are expectedly short, but man were the cutscenes cool...

Nyzul relics were dissapointing simply because i have no clue what the end result will be and thats a metric shit-ton of work for not knowing why you're doing it.

    Ixion is something different, and watching onlookers get blasted out of nowhere never gets old. The ninja sandworm doomvoid edit sounds cool, but we haven't gotten to play with it yet due to it being in JP primetime;

Edit: ZNM is awesome, cracked out khim/cerb/hydra is win... Though having to Pokemon to do them is annoying

Lakshmi must be filled with douchebags because every time I've gone around to try and farm zeni, if there was competition I would just team up with them so we could both be done with our film faster.

Haven't ever had to fight anyone to get zeni, like at all. And several people from rival LS's I know even team up to get zeni since it just makes it so much easier and since helping other people get the points doesn't do jack to prevent your own LS from accomplishing anything.

I'd probably hate the system too if I was doing it horribly wrong. Thankfully, I'm not.

Agreed...I haven't had issues joining people already holding mobs on Hades - hell I've had parties give me the mob when I get there cause they finished...

I've found having a good puller here does wonders. Practicing as an RDM/BLM, I actually managed to pull five gnats all the way back to near the Rhinostery in Windurst...and that was through an entire pack of NPC defenders by the C.A. Lived through it, too. A well-placed -ga can end up getting monsters clear and away from the main swarm, while normal engagement winnows it a bit. Sleepga is golden here.

Re: 1 week impressions of the patch

Lots of win in this patch, although whiners will still be whiners. Don't believe I need to go over everything people have stated already, but I will say something about campaign.

Before, it seemed easy enough that we'd hold all areas, and leave the beastmen with just their bases. Now the patch has reversed things. While annoying, I wonder if it was intentional, and that next patch, the situation will reverse again. Or incorporate more teaming up between the nations (imagine a batch of San D knights showing up to defend Grauberg). Just to give things more variety.

My other thought, is that SE figured they had to make the beastmen harder, if they gave us Medics, and that they overtuned.

Overall, good patch. I'd like to see a buff to BLMs, WHMs, and SMNs in the next patch, but that's about it. SMN really only got 1 piece of gear this time around, although that's more than most patches. Not really counting the minor macro legs upgrade, nor the hMP, since it doesn't really buff the avatars.

I have to underline this. I joined random JPs on their mobs no problem after asking politely. Also I am even making new friends with people I never had a reason to talk with before

Same. Have had JP people ask to join parties I was in, as well. Also went around as an LS and did like 24 people on the same mob while we were still learning how everything worked. Monopolozing isn't really a big issue, at least not from what I've seen. And it only takes like 10 min to get 20 pics.

Re: 1 week impressions of the patch

About the ZNM thing, getting the photos is pretty easy and it completely removes the competition aspect of it. If you can't find a mob to fight yourself, chances are someone might be willing to share theirs, assuming you aren't a known idiot. Ofcourse, there's really crapy people in this comunity, and they are a lot, but since a single person or a group only needs one mob, this is simply no issue. It could be with the desired fauna, but since the normal option is still good for points, this doesn't matter.

What i do see as a grind is having to go all the way back to T1 only to pop another T2 or T3. Maybe i'm mistaken and this isn't that much of a grind since i have no real experience with this, but on paper it sounds pretty annoying since you'd need a rather dedicated group for this. Am i wrong?

This is about as dumb as competing with people to kill "The Miraculous DALE" NMs. It's your problem and has nothing to do with the patch or ZNMs in any way.

So your complaint is you have to do something miniscule to reap rewards greater than the effort (kind of like ENM). The nerve of SE.
Yeah. That actually is my biggest complaint. Why bother doing something challenging? I mean, we just want stuff. We don't want to actually do something challenging and fun afterall. All it takes is time and hardly any effort. It's all about .dats. Not effort. Not skill. Not fun. I guess a sense of accomplishment is beyond the comprehension of the vast majority of players looking at these post. Yeah, I'm one of those jaded endgamers. So feel free to tell me what an idiot I am, and that I should go camp fafnir some more.
