    HD TV Question

I recently bought an HDTV and when I first had it, I did not have any cable whatsoever, infact I didn't even have an antenna.(What I did was plug a cable cord into the TV and that worked as an antenna) So with that setup I was getting digital channels and in high def too. Now with cable I don't have an HD receiver (Charter says I need to be a customer for 6 months before I can). So my question is, is it possible to get just local channels in HD while still using my cable. Just seems kinda BS to me that I can't get HD local channels when they are free with an antenna

Pretty sure you'd need the receiver to decode the HD signal... I have no idea how it worked for you before.

    Re: HD TV Question

Most HDTVs have a built in ATSC tuner...you don't need an external box to decode HD.

Using an antenna is your best option for local HD.

wtf at be a customer 6 months before getting a HD receiver? I've never used charter before and when I moved I had them set up cable in my house and they left a HD receiver without a TV/PC or any of my possessions here

    Re: HD TV Question

In theory, I would think you could get some bunny ears, running your cable through that before it hits your TV, then on your tv you should be able to go from Cable > Air when you want local channels. That should work, but I'm not 100%. The poster that mentioned your HDTV having the ATSC tuner would be correct, and that's why your TV was able to pickup the HD channels... it's possible it would be as simple as going from Cable > Air on your TV settings.
