WOW FUCK EVERYTHING THAT WAS LISTED HERE, FF7 ONLY. BEST GAME EVER, REGARDLESS OF GENRE. FUCK YOU AND DIE IN A FIRE IF YOU DISAGREE.

    /fanboy off

In all seriousness though, Breath of Fire III and IV (and I highly suggest you play the first two using a emulator or whatever.)
    Chrono Cross and Trigger
XENOGEARS is a must for anyone.

Do Not, under any circumstances, play the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger.

I mainly got that pack just for FF4, and I was pretty happy with the purchase.

The load times didn't bother me, I honestly didn't notice them much.
But I guess after playing digimon world 3, no game's load times can get to me...

    Re: PS1 RPGs

I was trying to get Chrono Trigger running well on my PSP (like a retard I missed the Frame skip option in SNES9X) and tried out the PS1 version. The load times (even setting the PSP to fast loading) are very very very obvious going from the SNES version to the PS1 version. 3 seconds pauses opening the menu screen, the game freezing for 4-5 seconds at the start and end of every battle, etc.

    Re: PS1 RPGs

So anyway, I've got a question...does anyone happen to know of any RPGs (not just PS1 even) that happen to have characters that actually wear armor and use a variety of weapons? I'm a general fan of old medieval style type characters, not to say that I don't enjoy stuff like SO where the characters are generally just wearing clothes, but I like a main character who looks like s/he could actually take a hit from a sword and not go down immediately

Kind of a derail, but it doesn't really warrant its own thread.

Most of them on PC? Or do you mean console RPGs only?

Another good PS1 game that a lot of people forget about is called Brigandine. It's a lot like the old Shining Force games on the Genesis.

I loved playing Oddworld:Abe's oddyssy when I was younger. I never hear anyone talk about that game though. I think its worth a try.

My brother used to play O:AO all the time as well. I always had fun watching.

That one's actually on the list I linked to above... I wish people would look at it, it's got most of the suggestions that have been made after my post right on there!

I mean anything really, preferably something with a debatable finish line (no MMOs kinda thing), the Jeanne D'Arc sig tipped me off to finally ask BG about it...how is that game by the way? i've heard it's great but that it's too easy?

It's very easy, but it's held together by good gameplay and a solid story.

If you're looking for all around PSP RPG awesomeness get Wild Arms XF

have it, not such a big fan of being shoved into certain job classes for the storyline missions, aside from that I love everything about it, especially the fact that it may take a try or two to win once in a while.

    Re: PS1 RPGs

Slightly offtopic but I actually went onto Amazon to see how much copies of Vanguard Bandits and Brigandine were going for. Vanguard Bandits was like 75.00 for one with the case, manual, and cd in good shape. And fucking Brigandine was 90.00 for a copy in the same condition. If they were cheaper I would pick them up without a second thought. But that's just too much money imo.

The first Vandal Hearts was awesome. You kill somebody and they do the squished sprite and spray blood thing. I didn't play the second or remember what the first's story was, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who liked FFT.

Vandal Hearts 2 I thought was absolutely amazing too, although it gets very mixed reviews. The storyline is really strong and poignant and it is long with a fair amount of replay value; can be quite challenging at times too. It has a few flaws (some of the battles/battle arenas are generic) but I highly recommend it, more SRPG than RPG though.

Vandal Hearts 1 was great too~

I wrote down the names of my PSX game stash earlier, most were already mentioned, but here goes anyway:
Deception 2: Kagero (easy, but entertaining)
Decetion 3: Dark Delusion (easy, but entertaining)
    Alundra (fun, Zelda knock-off)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (awesome game)
    Monster Rancher (lol)
Breath of Fire 3 (fun game, good story)
Breath of Fire IV (good game, "villain" kind of sucked)
Chocobo Racing (lol, entertaning I guess)
    Ehrgeiz (meh)
SaGa Frontier (fun, lots of stuff to do playing through all the chars)
SaGa Fronter 2 (good story, weird battle system, hard fights)
Final Fantasy Tactics (awesome game, still don't understand the ending)
Final Fantasy: Origins (FF1 & 2) (both worth a quick playthrough once)
Final Fantasy: Chronicles (IV & Chrono Trigger) (both great games. yes, the loading times kind of suck)
Final Fantasy: Anthology (V & VI) (both awesome, VI I think is still the best JRPG)
Final Fantasy 7 (great game, overhyped though)
Final Fantasy 8 (worst in the series)
    Final Fantasy 9 (fun game)
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (L..O...A...D...I...N...G...S...C...R...E...E...N. ..S)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (fun, but needing to kill the enemies using vampire weaknesses was annoying)
    Xenogears (awesome game)
    Brave Fencer Musashi (fun game)
    Threads of Fate (fun game)
    Parasite Eve (awesome action/rpg)
Parasite Eve 2 (liked the first better)
Chocobo's Dungeon II (kind of bad, actually)
Legend of Mana (fun, New Game+ feature for completionists)
Front Mission 3 (very long strategy RPG)
    Chrono Cross (great game)
    Bushido Blade (fun fighting game)
Bushido Blade 2 (first was better)
Tales of Destiny (fun game, Street Fighter meets Star Ocean)
Star Ocean: The Second Story (fun game)
    Metal Gear Solid (meh)
MGS: VR Missions (I don't know why I bought this. I think it was only $7 new)
Torneko: The Last Hope (same as VR Missions)
Azure Dreams (I remembered seeing a review and it looked really cool)
Dragon Warrior 7 (fun game, easy to miss something and get stuck though)
Lunar Silver Star Story: Complete (fun game)
Beyond the Beyond (I unleashed a shriek that shattered all the windows and glasses in the house and then set it on fire upon finding it. This is my negative review of a game.)
