Its a ton of paperwork when a cop shoots a deer thats been hit. Been told they dont even want to unless the person is hanging around bugging them to put it down. So what you have to go through for taking out a crazy guy kicking a kid sounds inline.

If the dude is flailing all over the place (still beating the poor infant) 30 feet away from the cop with the gun, at night, I'd imagine it would be pretty difficult to peg him in a specific spot. Also, you have to make sure not to hit the kid while you're at it.

Considering the factors, the officer is a pretty good shot. Hell, he could have pegged an artery in his armpit and the guy bled out in 2 minutes, you never know.
