Free music instantly made me cream my pants but I have yet to find places that give free music to students. Ugh What other shit can I do with it? Also is the free music DRMed?

I've never heard of free music, but I've seen Microsoft give big discounts to students on stuff like Office 2007. They validate you by seeing if you have an .edu e-mail address. Good luck finding a free music site for students though, if it does exist it's probably crap anyway.

Most cell phone providers will allow you to sign up for discounted plans, and they use your school email address to check your eligibility. I save $15 a month with mine.

It's no different than any e-mail address, it's just universities like to circle-jerk about how they have their own e-mail systems and give each student one, refusing to send e-mail anywhere but there.
