I don't know if this was mentioned before, but while doing Escort for Hire (Bastok) today, there was a very noticeable change in mob behavior. I know SE mentioned changes to this type of quest, but as far as I know, they were unrelated to mob behavior.
I normally solo it on RDM/BLM, by just running around sleeping stuff. As I would come closer to Olavia's destination, I would have a train of maybe 20-30 mobs, depending on what route she would take. This train was started at the first room with the four scorpions.
While doing it today, the scorpions deaggro'd before I even left that corridor leading to their room. I thought I was lagging out when they stopped. Olavia took the short/easy route (to the room with the four Exorays). From there, I trained the Soldier Crawlers in the hallway ahead up to the circular Lizard room, and slept them there. Pulled a Lizard to start a new train, and by the time I got to the last room, the Crawlers had deaggro'd as well (I had to go back to click on Olavia to advance).
So I guess mobs deaggro there now, just as they would under normal circumstances if you're far enough away. It has been my experience that they used to follow you until the end, before the June patch, when completing this quest using this method.
Not game-breaking or anything, but I thought I'd share, and this seemed like an appropriate thread.
Was there water weather in CN at the time?
The next race is against four of Shantotto's Cardians, who speed and slow attacks. Shantotto is up to her usual tricks. Forgot to look how many Chocobucks it takes to enter, you get 8500Gil for the victory. My Chocobo won without any items.
They've always deaggroed using the charm/train/leave method, and we've had them deaggro while dragging a big epic train before.
Fairly normal behavior.
If you are over a certain distance away, and the time decay (VE) runs out, they seem to give up pretty quick.
I don't remember, but it's very possible. The weather was up in Rolanberry Fields before I entered, so there's a good chance it was still up inside, though I didn't notice.Originally Posted by Amok
I also don't recall seeing any weather on the previous times I did it, but weather could be the cause.
Yes, I know this. Happened when I used to duo with a SMN friend, however, the way I do it as RDM/BLM, is to round up the mobs, and sleepga. I'd be accross the zone by the time mobs woke up, and they would still chase.Originally Posted by Max™
Edit: Grammar.
It seems to depend on linking.
If you train a crawler from the zone past a bunch of other crawlers enough that they keep relinking, you get the whole train.
If the main link loses hate, and there isn't something to relink it (as with the lizards and scorps) the train goes away fast.
Whee, Race #4 is "Mystery Race"!
[spoiler:qb6yuc72]4x Chocobos, 4x Cardians, hosted by Shantotto![/spoiler:qb6yuc72]
40 chocobucks to enter, 8.5k reward.
These new races have a fair number of NPC Chocobos with Regen as one of their abilities. Still don't have a good idea of what it does, however. Strength or Stamina regen is a possibility, as is speed of recovery from being hit by effects.
Wee, Chocobo Race #5. It's story time and some secrets are revealed.
[spoiler:2nq8i8cc]Sakura is really and adult chocobo, you are racing against her. The monster races are her way of trying to find her mother. And if you win this one, you'll be allowed to partake in the Dream Race.[/spoiler:2nq8i8cc]
Costs are 45 Chocobucks, the mobs this time are a Tiger, a Sabotender, a white bunny wunny and a Torama. Race is like all the other and I just won^^
Victory nets you 9k Gil and a Pullus Torque (which turns you into a baby Chocobo, one charge, recast 24hrs).
The plot thickens.
Yeah, the Dream Race. It costs 50 Chocobucks.
[spoiler:278wqvto]And you get to race against Sakura in her true form, she's a white Chocobo (looks like an Albino). Keyaki and Sakura use special dream items. Keyaki's makes every one but her and Sakura slower, Sakura's makes her insanely fast.[/spoiler:278wqvto]
This time you are racing against Chocobos only.
I placed second -.- only a few wee centimetres missing.
By the description, this is probably the last race.
edit:
Yeah, I did it (on the third try). First race ever I used an offensive item. You get a key item, the Mythril Trophy, 10k and a new title. Yep, last race.
[spoiler:278wqvto]Sakura's the daughter of the Queen of Chocobo Country, her mother died protecting her. Keyaki is her hand maiden, hence why Keyaki is helping Sakura during the race.
I had hoped we'd get one of Sakura's eggs. Raising a white Chocbo, yes, please.
She could even have bred with the Chocobo who beat her, would have been some pretty good genes.^^[/spoiler:278wqvto]
Took me seven tries (350 chocobucksYeah, I did it (on the third try). First race ever I used an offensive item. You get a key item, the Mythril Trophy, 10k and a new title. Yep, last race.). First two tries I used apples, and after that Pepper Biscuits. Until the last try, each time the Pepper Biscuit would target an irrelevant chocobo or get resisted.
And I just realized SE might have just tied the storyline into WoTG:
[spoiler:2ac6pjt6]Where exactly is this "Land of Chocobos" Sakura is from? Might be in the past, considering that we use a Pure White Feather to enter the Cavernous Maw...[/spoiler:2ac6pjt6]
Was lucky with my first Pepper Biscuit (and I didn't have many tries left, since I had already spent 800 Chocobucks that day).
[spoiler:1xwp8djh]Markovich speculates that the VCS stables might feel like the Land of Chocobos to the Chocobos.[/spoiler:1xwp8djh]
*grumble* One of my Chocobos failed the fourth race again, while another with the same stats already passed it yesterday. I prefer the pre-June-update settings, much more predictable.
God, please tell me when you run with the outfit on, you don't make that "pook-pook-pook-pook" sound effect.
I must start racing now. T.T
I'd say it sounds more like patter-patter-patter, the sound your little feet are making when you run around.
Rats, it doesn't make the little smooshing noise from the choco raising cutscenes?
[spoiler:ipc0wakb]YES GODDAMMIT, I LOVED MY BABY CHOCOBOS! I'M AN ASSHOLE BUT I STILL LOVE CUTE LITTLE ANIMALS, JEEZ![/spoiler:ipc0wakb]
how much work from scratch does it take to get a torque? Me wants!
One month and lots off money at least, or more time and a bit less money.
It's not fast.
Better question: what is the minimum stats a Bird could win with?
I've got my black riding bird that is first class strength and just under first class endurance, not enough without higher disc/rec/abilities huh?
That torque makes me wanna get into the choco stuff.
How do you start the new choco racing stuff anyway?
Probably a noob question, but what is the best way to amass large quantities of chocobucks? Every time I take part in an official race i win money, only the free runs give me bucks (1-5) and I get a few from from Hot and cold daily. How the heck did you get 800 to splurge on races? is there something i have missed?
