Munich's in Germany, while it may look close up on the map it's in a different country. If you do go travelling across borders just make sure your visas etc. allow for it. Travelling within EU is pretty simple these days (grab your ID- don't even need passport- and off you go), but I have no idea what kind of regulations many ex-Eastern block countries who haven't yet joined the EU still impose. And yeah, Ukraine is pretty split up between pro-west and old skool commies, one of my dad's closest mates used to travel to there on business a lot and always came back a bit "wtf". Your experience and what kind of welcome you get is hugely dependant on who you run into.
