Norton does indeed suck.
If you want to get good virus protection, NOD or Kaspersky is the way to go. I also hear Symantec Anti-Virus is good. Steer clear of Norton/McAfee etc.

AVG Free still performs up to spec, and not having to pay for the app itself is always a nice perk.
I know, ironic right. Symantec apparently is good compared to Norton though but having no experience you can take that as you will.Originally Posted by Norellicus
Its true, Symantec Corporate Edition is worlds better than Norton Internet Security, and is probably the best antivirus on the market right now. Nod32 is up there, as is Kapersky. AVG also does a fine job for being free.
If you're careful/sensible, don't get any. Once you install one your life will probably get worst over time.
Otherwise ... AVG is what I install on all of my clients' machines.
Uh.... no. Do not listen to this man. He could not possibly be more wrong.Originally Posted by TheStig

I ended up choosing Symantec Corporate, since my company offered it for free. It's working great so far.
Well,I won't argue that. Lets just say I never owned one past 1998. But I will recommend people to use it. That was just from my perspective.Originally Posted by Cephius
Having no AV protection is careless, you could argue the point that "Yeah ok but I know what sites not to go to, what not to download and to keep away from those suspicious things" but that doesn't protect you from the recent things like sites getting hacked and stuff.
No point in NOT having an AV, it doesn't really slow down your machine that much and it also puts your mind at ease.
I use Avast, took a recommendation on a forum when people were debating the best AV, and I have to say I am impressed with this free version and avast has yet to let me down. I used mcafee for three years then it wouldn't update for some reason (and made me do it manually) and I had a perpetual license.
Symantec Corporate is very well made.
Oh, I know Symantec is good shit and Norton is crap; it's just amusing to see parent company given praises and daughter branding getting torched in the same sentence.
