Well to be honest I don't see many drks around at 75; the ones I see are either very good or very very bad lol.Originally Posted by Tan
And yah, sorry if I sounded slightly offensive, I just don't like the thinking at the moment that "SAM > everything all of the time, every situation" etc. I personally think that strong DDs like DRK, SAM etc are all pretty even and there is no clear cut winner.
MNK for all the reasons stated above.

I was kinda hoping that Footwork was going nerf Utsusemi and keep the Asuran TP gain, was hoping to see something like MNK/DRG instead of the usual hide behind the shadows MNK/NIN.
You're crazy if you think people go MNK/NIN by choice (unless they're intending to tank)Originally Posted by Tan

The big thing about FFXI is not getting people to try different shit, its getting people to accept that you do something differently.Originally Posted by Cream Soda
Unfortunately, doing something differently usually constitutes doing something badly these days.
DRK because [insert many reasons here].

This. /Nin is why I haven't leveled /DNC, because even if I did the second I showed up on it I would be told to switch. And this is from the stupid bastard that went around /thf to events because if I wasn't there on PLD or WHM people weren't paying attention, but the SECOND I have a SJ people aren't familiar with (showed up to dynamis /blm because I was in a hurry a couple times) I always get called on it.Originally Posted by Shuemue
Err, @ all the 'SAM onry for everything cause it's best for everything!'
If I can find beneficial reasons to change to DRK, MNK, etc, for many of the various events in FF, as a fully decked relic SAM, then I'm sure just about anyone else without an Amano can. With relic things are obviously different, but without it it's rather arrogant to think that SAM is the best choice of the other jobs for any given situation. Most jobs played correctly can put out as much damage as a SAM (moreso for 2h'ers now obviously), and can surpass it (decked WAR/SAM > decked SAM/WAR, etc).
I'd also recommend either MNK or DRK for the OP, both of which offer a roll more unique than leveling SAM for his jobs. As far as I'm concerned his WAR is his SAM already, being the heavy and versatile DD job. DRK and MNK would offer a more unique/different roll including higher survivability, top performance in zergs, strong tanking, etc.
But there aren't many if any situations at all where you would really need a SAM over a WAR, or a WAR over a SAM, assuming you play both jobs correctly. They both tend to fill similar slots, or at least in my experiences. So I wouldn't really recommend leveling it if you already have a decked WAR.
going with MNK... got a pt and was doing about 42% of the parse.. now granted this was with 2 H2H merits and with THF and BLU as DD's.. went from 3k into 37 to 2k to 40.. might lvl SAM since they use alot of similar gear.. thanks for all the input guys.![]()
I love drk because it's not the same boring melee job. <3 stun, absorb spells (tp+acc), sleeps, drain1+2, dread spikes and hell even nukes are useful sometimes.
how gimp the players are factors even more into things at that low lv than merit lv. MY drg used to outdamage people with my wyvren yet i cant conclude that drg wyvrens can outdamage everyone else @ 75 because of that.
My thf outdid a relic bow sam the other day 34% vs the sam doing 28% while being unable to trick attack or sneak attack as a result of tanking and the other players having bad positioning. Dont make the mistake of believing that just because you are X job and another is y job that you can automatically outDD them and that they wont be a challenge to outparse.
If you outDD a person in one job chances are you can do it on any other almost or just as badly if you put forth the effort.
Parsing against other players is never a reliable indicator of the effectiveness of any given job. People like to talk about things like a "Black Belt Monk" as though the term is meaningful. I'm a Black Belt Monk, but I also have very few merits and mostly AH gear (working on the former, heaven knows about the latter).
Play the job that's likely to keep you interested. If you can stand the long delay, which has always been the deciding factor in turning me off 2H weapon jobs in this game, Dark Knight is pretty fun for the smart player. Knowing when and how to use your spells and buffs can make leveling up a lot more interesting than just "swing, swing, WS, swing, swing" ad nauseum. I don't really see the point of leveling up another job unless you're going for Maat's Cap, anyhow, but another consideration is just how much gear can be used across jobs. Especially when wandering into Rare/Ex territory, inventory crunch can get troublesome.
I recommend DRK or RNG! I'm neither but they're truly unique, and are both exclusively useful in some situations.
I would say DRK, and with KC even if you don't use drk as much as your other jobs when you bring it to 75, it will still always be useful in zerg situations. Merits you seem to already have rdm, nin, war, brd so I'm sure you never have problem getting merits if you need to . Salvage I guess mnk is great if it was just that you wanted to level for.
Or just remove his lolparry/evasion merits.Originally Posted by Cream Soda
