Laptop's AC-Adapter "overheating"

I couldn't quite word the title correctly, but this is what is going on right now:

As of a couple days ago, my laptop was having trouble keeping a charge with my AC adapter without me holding it in. I figured that it was because it was too loose, or something, until today.

Earlier today I realized that my AC plug was getting extremely hot. A few moments later I saw smoke coming out of my speaker (this area is precisely where the AC plug-in is located). I shut down my laptop and checked to make sure nothing was fried (and seeing as my laptop is running fine on battery power and is running smoothly, it appears I was right in thinking it was fine).

This laptop is an HP dv9308nr

I thought that maybe my battery was no longer taking a charge or it was shot, but even with the battery out, I had the same problems with the AC adapter as before.

I'm unsure what to search for (maybe faulty wiring?) Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Sounds like something's shorting out or making contact with the metal casing, if the laptop is still under warranty I'd take it in to be repaired. Unless you feel comfortable taking apart the whole laptop and looking around, I wouldn't do it yourself.

Call HP or take it to a repair shop, if something is touching the case (as Mr. Ceph has said) and you don't know too much about the insides of it, don't take it apart. But also could be something shorted as well, could cause the smoke
