not gonna convince me with "texas republicans"

but that joke aside, race really doesn't make a difference at this point. The people that are and aren't going to vote for him based on that won't be swayed, and everyone else doesn't care. If anything, if the republicans DO make any kind of a hooplah about it, it will only help the democrats. I know I'd get sick of it really fast

Lol @ calling yourself a fence voter. Everything you ever stated in other threads pretty much confirms what you really are. Its like swampy coming out one day and telling us he is an independent. its not gonna happen.

I'm glad you think that way, but right now I'm leaning Obama

I believe in conservatism, something neither candidate does, so I have to judge my vote on other things, such as the war and societal questions.

When you say you believe in conservatism, what do you mean by that? Because, ugh, low government spending is not conservatism.

Basically, Conservatism can mean almost anything you want it to mean.

100 years from now, being a conservative could mean believing in socialism. Anything that you ajoute to conservatism means absolutely nothing because i can ask thousands and potentially get different definitions of what conservatism means depending on the place and time they were born.

What i would like to know is how and when did conservatism and low government spending become correlated, seeing as how anyone with a brain can understand that a deficit is a bad thing, and that the Republican party doesn't seem to care for that whole low government spending thing.

Well we delete my posts now, but I'll say the same thing again. Conservatism is so fucked now because of the fact that it is associated with the Republican party, which nowadays is very little different than the Democratic party. Being Republican is supposed to inherently mean that you are for low taxes, low government spending, being cautious before heading into wars or signing into alliances of any kind with foreign countries, especially those that would require us to send troops somewhere. It's supposed to mean that we don't infringe on peoples rights or invade the privacy of Americans.

As we all know, the Republican party went after Al Queda in Afghanistan and instead of pursuing them across borders, our alliances forced us to stop at Tora Bora, now we are occupying Afghanistan. We went into Iraq, we increased government spending by billions of dollars, privacy rights and property rights are in a sense suspendable. The dollar because of decades, not one presidents term, of interest cuts is having its inflation bubble burst.

Typically many of those bad points were characteristics of the Democratic party; going to war and government spending being the big two.

I'm trying to remember a quote describing the dichotomy of the parties...but meh.

EDIT: Not the same one, but basically the same thing...far older quote.

"Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties - 1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. 2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depositary of the public interests. - In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves. Call them, therefore, Liberals and Serviles, Jacobins and Ultras, Whigs and Tories, Republicans and Federalists, Aristocrats and Democrats, or by whatever name you please, they are the same parties still and pursue the same object. The last one of Aristocrats and Democrats is the true one expressing the essence of all. " Thomas Jefferson

tl:dr delete my posts ur cool gj the parties are the same gtfo.

That's an old liberal mind trick, Conservatives define conservatism, not liberals.

Note to Libertarians: saying the DNC and GOP are the same does not make you appear edgy or intelligent.

Re: This pretty much sums up Mr. Obama

Don't start this shit with me, goddamit. Gee, because Dems and Repubs like government spending, they must be the same party!

Libertarians and Republicans both want lower taxes, they must be the same party!

Democrats and Libertarians are both generally for allowing gay marriage, and often groups withing both parties are for drug legalizations, they must be the same party!

Or we can not be fucking tards and see that there are stark differences in foreign policy, tax policy, homosexual rights, role of religion in government/schools, welfare systems, research funding, energy policy, deficit spending, trade agreements, criminal punishment, torture, gun policy, etc between the Democratic and Republican parties.

    stop trolling
