No doubt SE is making a ton of money off this, but im highly doubting that the person who wins 100 mil is going to look back and say "im a fucking moron for paying an extra 5 dollars for 2 months just to get this measly 100 mil prize". If 10 dollars over a 2 month span is too expensive for you, you shouldnt be playing online video games. For everyone else, a few extra dollars a month is well worth a shot at 100 mil

The wait, and as a consequence the extra fee, is supposed to be a deterrent to creating mules for the fact it would cost real money to create a mule and purchase the marbles on them. If they just picked the number after the deadline, then people would create mules (even more so then now) and cancel them before the bill cycle. Malice isn't always an intent for a company. Sometimes there is logistical reasons for the things they do.

Incremental charging and micropurchasing is the future of business, just look at Microsoft points / Wii points. I didn't balk at the price of $4 for an additional 2 mules for 2 months, and I'm sure SE loves the money.
