i start college next semester, diablo 2 enveloped my life. im scared if this is actually diablo 3!

The WoW expansion is November or December release date. It's a really big coincidence with the dates coinciding with Diablo II.

Also, it isn't LK on the day 5 splash, LK's helmet has a diamond higher up between the eye-brows, unless they completely change his model.

I have no idea about the the 5th day's rune (6/27/08), but yesterdays rune looked a LOT like Lost Vikings as somebody else pointed out. It's not exact, but neither is the Lich Kings rune (1st day).

And yeah... the eyes look a lot like a Protoss or Arthus now. But the brow [above the nose] is a little off from how they make Arthus look on the Wotk front page. I think there is going to be an announcement for all of Blizzards main games.

It's not like Blizzard to give teases for stuff thats not going to be included (as far as I can recall, but may be wrong), so I'd imagine a little of everything at least.

My google skills say it was about 3-4 months.

If I had to guess at this point I would say late August/early September for the start of the beta, and an early December release.

Blizzard is a big fan of red herrings. They love to throw people off with these images. So instead of seeing something from protoss and expecting SC2 news, its more likely just there to help make the real announcement more ambiguous. Also, just mentioning the many different games in their franchises seems to be a popular thing for them: for SC2's release, they had a week of teaser images that literally cycled through a timeline of their games but ended on a new one in the form of SC2.

If anything, the 5th days rune has a stronger connection with Lost Vikings, as it quite closely resembles a viking symbol/compass:

Unless they start changing the splashes quicker, there is only a single one left (midnight tonight). There have been a lot of really cool photoshops from these ice images that look like diablo, so I'd expect this is one as well. Still cool though.

But, if the splash screen changes every (PST) midnight (w/it has been I think), then that would mean the image should be complete before their big announcement at the Paris convention starting at 2:45am~ PST. So maybe they intended to be retarded and update the splash image every 30 minutes from midnight till 2:30am (<- w/would still put it before the convention according to the above remaining images) while all but the truely hardcore are asleep? If those are legit images then it will prolly unfold over the next-week.

edit: Oh yeah... It's also possible to change a webpages internal clock (<- maybe I'm mentioning the wrong process) to show certain updates/changes w/have already been programmed into the database. I doubt Blizzard would make a critical oversight such as this, but it may be possible to see what the finalized splash screen is by changing those numbers. I know somebody did it for the Warhammer Paris(?) convention to see what the message was behind the EU WAR timer w/counted down to the event.
