    cpu: P4 3.2gigazerts

ram: 2 gigs, speed is whatever my mobo caps at, i ferget
    mb: asus P4P800-E deluxe
    os: Win XP pro SP2
    gfx driver: forceware 169.21

    high: 5012
    low: 6964

higher than I expected! built this rig over 2 years ago with mostly top-end stuff and it has served me well. i had a 6800 ultra up until a month ago - it was starting to flake out so i had to replace it. being limited by APG meant no upgrades (just replacements), but at least it was cheap!

fwiw, i usually play FFXI in a 1028x764 window with no super-sampling, nothing special turned on. It's 30 fps in everything but towns, campaign/besieged, and random splurges of activity.

i'm thinking y'all might want to add your graphics driver info too.

man I can't wait to buy a new comp. i'm thinking alienware. so tired of piecing together boxes by hand and all the hassles that come with it.

aye, I went above 30 fps several times in low-qual mode, and hit 50+ a few times as well. man would that be nice if they unlocked it.

Did you see what happened when it went over 30fps? The characters and everything started moving in fast motion haha. I'm so disgusted with the port of the game.

I didn't see them moving in fast motion, I saw them moving at the the same speed they should, just with extra frames in the animation :((((

I thought it would be interesting to post a non video carded system for comparison, lol.

    Apple Macbook
CPU: Intel Core 2 2.16 ghz
    Graphics Card: Onboard Intel 945
    RAM: 2 GB DDR2
OS: Windows XP Professional SP3 via Bootcamp

    Scores: 2829-H 4280-L

This is just a plain xp install via bootcamp and with no tweaking done to the OS or drivers.

And just because I was curious i ran it on my old desktop PC. I had already played FFXI on it sometime ago, wasn't that bad, but funny thing is that it had similar results to TeancumMemsochet on Low-res.

    MSI P35 Platinum
    Q9450 Quad Core, normal clock
    XFX 8800GTS, normal clock
    4GB RAM
    XP SP2
    Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA

    H: 9008

I'll screw around with overclocking later.

    EDIT:

    8800GTS OC'd to 600mhz proc/900mhz mem+stock CPU yielded H:9098. Definitely not a video card bottleneck.

Q9450 OC'd to 3.0ghz+stock GPU yielded H:9228. Watching CPU load on my G15 keyboard, it was pegged at 90-100% quite a bit. I'm guessing you dual core folks with the 3.6-4.0ghz OCs are seeing the best performance.

    Q9450 OC'd to 3.2ghz (400mhz fsb) + 600/900 8800GTS = 9628H

Oh, all tests are on NVidia's 175.63 drivers

Re: FFXI Vana'diel Bench 3 Challenge!

    2. The benchmark stops and exits right when it finishes, giving you no time to really write down your benchmark total. I want you to take the total from when the screen fades to black at the very end. The final scene it benchmarks is a bunch of Taru doing /confused while airships fly overhead and confetti drops.
You don't need to wait before it fades to black.
If you put the benchmark demo in Loop mode, the final number will stay on screen as the next demo starts.

(got this knowledge from trying too many times to run FFXI on shitty laptops... )

    CPU: Intel P4 2.8ghz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS (AGP)
    RAM: 1gb Kingston DDR400 (PC3200)
    Mobo: ASUS P4P800
    OS: XP Pro SP2

    Score: 3332-H

It's a pretty old rig (most components are 4+ years old now), and while I thought my score would be higher, it does run the game rather decently. I run it with most settings high (2048x2048 background, smooth environmental animation, uncompressed textures, mip mapping = 6), but do need to turn shadows off full time and weather effects during heavy rain/dust/wind storms. I get 29fps in almost all areas until about 5-10 PCs are on-screen, then I drop down to the low 20s. Dynamis and Whitegate AH bring down into the teens/high single digits though.

On a side note, WoTG zones rape my FPs by about 10 for no apparent reason. Battalia-S and Sauromuge-S seem to be the main culprits. Even with myself as the only PC onscreen, nowhere near any Campaign battles, no NPCs, and no special weather affects, I dip down to like 19-20 FPS. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Wait, what? I didn't know it was up for debate whether FFXI is more CPU than GPU intensive.

And seriously, if you're going to test for either of those, don't use the highest settings because then you won't know what the bottleneck is.

Thanks for your useful post. Everyone knows FFXI is more CPU dependent.
