A friend of mine just got his license to do this and told me he'd hook me up the first time around if I wanted to get it done. I've been wanting to get it done for a few years now, but never really committed yet (my mom is 100% against it, and being that I'd been living with her I've tried to avoid bad blood). My fiancee wants me to get full sleeves done, but I'm rather against that for the long term reasoning and because moving into my career would be a pain in the ass with sleeves done.

Anyone who has tattoos give it a yes or no? I know it's kind of a do your own thing kind of deal, but anyone every gotten that one that they've regretted later?

I do very much want to get one at some point, prolly like the bass clef on my calf since I play bass.. but anyways getting a full sleeve? as your first tattoo? that's kinda... aiming far at your first at bat. First off, you named it already but that will always require a long sleeve shirt to cover up. Getting it removed? Fat chance. I am curious however. What do you want as the sleeve? Is it something of sentimental value? I really hope you aren't wanting one for a bullshit reason.

Guess I worded it a bit confusing, but I'm not personally wanting sleeves; my fiancee is all for me getting them, though. In all honesty I don't know what I could fill sleeves with at the moment.

The tattoo I'm considering is a black sheep on the inside of my bicep. Long story, blah blah, but that's my intent. My fiancee joked and said I should get a black sheep and fill the rest of my arm with a flock of sheep.

No offense, it's not your fiance's body... it is yours. The decision should be only yours and only affected by you. Sheep thing seems odd but it's your wish and your reason so stupid to fight that. But a flock of...? Very weird. A single item, however, has taste. That seems like a good idea.

I have three tattoos, my oldest I've had for 12 years. I got them at varying points in my life to mark reflected change, and I can remember my transitions in life when looking in the mirror. I also illustrated them all, so they have a special sort of importance in that manner. However, one thing that I have done is to always get tattoos in areas that are covered with simple clothing, in order to preserve my ability to get professional jobs etc. (I have one on my right shoulder blade, one on my left pectoral, and one on the outside flank of my right calf)...

I've drawn lots of designs for tattoos, and if you want to get some ideas, I can pm you some things...

As far as professional manner goes, is on the wrist that's easily covered by a watch still "professional"? I've debated this with a couple people a work and they all say as long as the watch/other wrist accessory covers it, then it's not a big deal. Going into journalism, and having to deal with people everyday, this seems kinda pushing the acceptable boundary.

I've got 3 myself, high on my arms, and on my shoulder. I was worried, like you, that any majorly visible ink would hurt my chances at any sort of career. The solution was to put them in "T-shirt and shorts" areas.

Once you figure out what you want, just check out where your t-shirt sleeves fall, and keep em above the line. I also usually get a good golfer's tan, and they stay out the sun in my golf shirts as well.

I have three, a Rose with three words underneath to honor my grandfarthers memory as he had the same tattoo but slightly different design, which is on my left forearm at the front.
Underneath on the other side of the same forearm a treble clef just because I am a musician and some shitty tribal tattoo on my right forearm I got when I was eighteen, this one I kind of regret but it does look slightly cool. Pick your choice wisely as you do have to live with it for the rest of your life, but saying that, they're "cool" and I always enjoy looking at others.

on topic, I have 2 tattoo's and want more. I have an arm band I got on my left arm when i was 16 and another one I designed when i was like 20.

basically took my a long time to figure out what i wanted and where i wanted it but i love them and want more, just don't nkow what and where yet. I always wanted one on my chest but ever since i started enjoying beer so much i've grown some small boobies so that went out the window.

I have one tattoo that I regret, not for the image but for its placement, as its visible when wearing VERY short sleeves or tank tops. Even so, consider placement where the only person who's going to see it will be yourself or your partner.

That is the tattoo I have on the inside of my right leg, just above my ankle.

I got it for my 18th birthday. It was one of those "I have always wanted a tattoo off..."

The only recomendation I have is to make sure that what you get has a strong personal meaning to you, rather than something you think looks pretty. It's going to be on your body for the rest of your life, be prepared for that.

I'd also recommend getting a tattoo that isn't visible depending on what kind of career you want to go in. My tattoo on my back is below the collar line on my shirt for this purpose.

Please don't get any Asian Lettering or any other trendy shit. Get something that means something to you, otherwise you will regret it in the future.

Tattoos are also very addicting. Once you get one you will want to get more, just take it easy and really think out the whole process before you make the final decision of what you want.

My brother almost got a japanese character tattoo that said "Happiness" a few days ago. I ripped him a new asshole. He'll thank me someday though.

I wanted to get a tattoo the day I turned 18, but I didn't have anything in mind so I probably would've ended up getting some piece of shit cookie cutter tattoo out of the photo albums they have at most parlors. 4 years later I finally have 3 or 4 ideas for tattoos I want, and even then some of them are iffy.
