It's a personal decision, not up to your Fiance or your mom, but if you're going into a career like Journalism it might be a good idea to make sure it can be covered up easily.

It honestly depends where you work/who your boss is and so on with tattoo acceptance. I have 6 myself, and after doing my clinic rounds this summer (rotation of 2wks at each) I saw mixed reactions from employees and the DVM in charge. Some honestly found it interesting sat and talked about them, others judged me from the get-go of who I was. It's give or take. Given, medical profession probably is more unforgiving of body modification on employees than, let's say cubical jockeys/business types. Won't stop me from completing the 3/4 sleeve on my right arm.
As usual, the best tattoos are the one that have significant meaning to YOU. Not someone telling you "oh, that's cool, do that!" or shit that's "trendy." Do avoid crap like flash art off the wall (uncreative), putting lover's name on you, kanji if you're not asian.
My favourite tattoo of the lot is a tiny bob-omb from N64's Smash Bros box. Nerdy yes, and some'll scream "WRYYYYY?," but it's a reminder for me of a particular event (and it's like, 1in x 1in, very tiny). I do have one I regret, but only because I found out after I was allergic to red ink, thus not all of it held. Need to get it fixed eventually.
My first piece, and hilariously, last -- added the characters at the bottom as I use those to sign artwork (as above so below). Still my favourite because it's only visible when I wear a low-backed dress, at which point its framed very well. Hand-drew both images.

If you really want one, go for it. Your mom will eventually get over it. I went through that with my first tattoo( and piercings >.>) When I got my first tattoo she made sure to slap it every time she saw me, but when I left for the navy and got more. She wanted me to show them off to her friends and relatives.
I have 7 my self and the majority of them are on my right arm since I am trying for a traditional/flash/old school theme there. I only have 2 pieces of flash, one on my neck that both my brothers also have and one on my right shoulder of a jester. I love the look of flash. Hell I'm thinking of getting some Sailor Jerry flash on me. Don't let people stop you from getting ink done, and also don't let them influence you on what to get. It's your body and it's your decision to put whatever you want on it. So with that, just sit down with your buddy and have a little brainstorming session of ideas. good luck on getting one and post pics if you do
How do some of you decide on what to get?
I know a lot of the BGers are pretty good at art and such, but how do the more ham-fisted artistically decide on a design without having to resort to a stock option?
I'm all for doing something personal, and I've been tempted to get one for years, but my artistic inability kind of puts me off it.
I want to get one on my wrist just like an above poster, but I'm afraid it won't work out well in the business world.
Just be careful, you don't want to end up looking like that guy from these forums (sorry, forgot the name, Galka PLD I think). ::shudder::
I got "The right path is my path" in Kanji on my forearms, 2 characters each arm. I got it done a week ago, and I love it. Regardless of the fact that kanji is a "trendy" tattoo, I am familiar with the saying, and I saw it in kanji in street fighter years ago and decided that it would be my first tat. My only regret about it is that i cant wear polo's to work anymore and we have had 2 heat waves already lol. Not really concerned about that, I like looking nice for work, and when i wear polo's i have a tendency to dress sloppy. Bottom line is get the shit that YOU want, if i were you, i would decide what I want, double check myself to confirm i really want this tat, then tell your SO. Don't let her influence your decision, except maybe for application, or placement. Its your body, regardless of what everyone else says, if it means something to you, thats all that should matter.
That looks pretty fresh, did you just get that?

Still love it. Had it touched up recently to deepen the black. Would love to get some better pics of it.Originally Posted by pohibaba

Not to shit on your parade, but... it looks like the kanji is flipped (if you show it to someone with your forearms up, it doesn't say anything). However, if you look at it in front of a mirror, it's 'correct' so to speak. Hope that was your intention.Originally Posted by Halleberry
i think the image is flipped around.. if you look at the calender in the back it appears to be backwards as well.. even the 67 near his forearm is flipped. otherwise, halleberry you got some major ass kicking to doOriginally Posted by Rasengan
Ah, that makes sense. btw, sup grim.
