upgrading current pc while i can, dont have money to get a new one.

Need suggestions on a processor for it.

While I agree w/ you on the E8400 for 99.99% of the time for things if they are on a budget build I have to say the E7200 or E2220 are good for a budget setup.

What level CPU can your current motherboard support? You may be able to put in a substantially faster processor and be able to keep the rest as-is.

If you're going to upgrade the motherboard and all that, IMO, you'd be better off trying to return/sell the video card than making major decisions around keeping it.

i can only upgrade to a xp 2600 (2.2ghz)

Do NOT buy that ASrock motherboard. They are well known for trying to combine every possible slot on a motherboard for newer hardware. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they announced that they are going to add ISA slots to a Nehalem board. There are a lot of problems with ASrock board with both a AGP and PCI-e 16x slot. Most of the time, the PCI-e 16x slot won't work with any decent level graphics card. Do NOT buy the ASrock board, you will not like it.

-only 20 pin power connector
-20 pin power connector in really fucked up position
-only 4 pin connector for cpu
-no heatsink on southbridge
-can use DDR or DDR2 immediately limiting you to 2 ram slots either or......unless you can use both types at same time lolz....

ASrock is famous for half-running boards that keep people from upgrading.

The cool thing about Intel CPUs is that you can run DDR, DDR2 or DDR3. The memory controller is in the chipset, so it's up to the motherboard companies to support different RAM types. ASrock of course chooses to keep people from upgrading. AMD's CPUs (and Nehalem will) have their memory controller intregrated into the CPU die. This is why AMD needed to produce the AM2 socket to add support for DDR2.

With that being said, DDR is way overpriced at the moment because it's old. It's also slow and uses a lot of power. DDR2 is incredibly cheap, is fast and uses less power.

DDR3 is of course still overpriced for the majority of PC users.
