You could choose your own numbers just fine, but if you wanted the moogle to /random them for you, you were stuck with a certain set of number combinations
And that would be a bad thing if the Dev. Team used the PS2 engine to choose the winning numbers.

Otherwise, it's not really a problem, right?

I mean, I chose a buttload of random numbers on PS2, and I noticed the same funny thing, only I wasn't paying too close of attention at the time. But, at the end of the day, SE's winning number could have been an EOEOE or OEOEO (jungle love) number, right?
now this doesnt seem so funny to me....

It's not a problem if SE randomly picks the winning number. However, we're almost positive they only semi-randomly picked the winning number. If all PS2 generated numbers were EOEOE or OEOEO then when SE generated an even-odd alternating number and checked the outcomes, they would have noticed a HUGE influx of gil and said, "Nope, next number please.".

The problem is that SE probley didn't fully randomly generate the number.
Pretty much. If the winning numbers were truly randomly generated, then the fact that the PS2's pRNG had a limited range wouldn't actually end up hurting your odds. But the fact that their generation method on PS2 was flawed makes me worry that even if they did select the winning numbers randomly (instead of aiming for something to keep the number of winners from being too high, as has been suggested), they might have used a bad method there as well.

I actually did notice this... on my PS2 and PS3 both. I kept having the moogle /random for me while I was choosing marbles, trying to get certain ending numbers. I ended up having to change to PC to get all my combinations because When I was rolling I couldn't get certain numbers. I would have a mule who was supposed to get 20-29, and could only get the moogles to /random the XXX21, XXX23, XXX25, etc numbers. Once I logged my accounts over to PC instead they were able to get the rest of the marble numbers I wanted them to have.

I figured it was some kind of glitch, surprised nobody else mentioned it and posted something sooner (I don't bother to go to Alla anymore except to laugh... )
If the winning number had been EOEOE or OEOEO no one would have ever brought it up. I say just QQ more to them, its the lottery. Hell I got a powerball ticket last week with the numbers 22, 24, 32, 34, 42, 44 but Im not going to call up the gaming commission offices and cry conspiracy because I didnt win

The point is that even if the winning number came up EOEOE or OEOEO then SE would have changed it due to having too many winners.

If they ever do another Mog Bonaza, I hope they don't allow the Moogle to random the numbers and players would be forced to pick their own numbers. Even if SE did selective pick the selections of number(which I can believe, SE didn't even want to do full character restores at one point if the item was already sold on AH at one point to avoid item duplication.) I do not recall any Moogle forcing anyone to random their numbers regardless PS2 or not.

The NJ lotto doesn't force anyone to have the computer random your number or pick it for yourself either, but when u find out that their "random system" is a FIXED SYSTEM, and the actual drawing of the number is 100% RANDOM, then some ppl might actually get PISSED. what's so fucking hard to understand about this?

Edit: Especially if SE would have picked EOEOEO or OEOEOE then they would have looked and been like "fuck, too many winners. pick again.

    Rank 5 prize: "1" (last digit)--837417 winners.

    Rank 4 prize: "44" (last 2 digits)--60461 winners.

    Rank 3 prize: "379" (last 3 digits)--6854 winners.

    Rank 2 prize: "1017" (last 4 digits)--1234 winners.

    Rank 1 prize: "47396" (all 5 digits)--56 winners.

    Rank 4 = EE
    Rank 3 = OOO
    Rank 2 = OEOO
    Rank 1 = EOOOE

Amazing. EOEOE OEOEO is going to be all sorts of history now.

Would have made a better discovery before the results were pulled, but now the complaints shall roll on in.

(I won rank 4 on a PC random marble)

Learn to read yourself, all I said was the reason no one likely brought it up before is they figured it was a coincidence or a glitch, BUT since the 'random' numbers that SE picked were not of the same pattern people are raising hell about it. Jesus pull the moogle out of your ass it might improve your mood a bit.

Wow, I picked all my numbers on ps2 and I didn't really care to notice. I just picked the first 10 the moogle game to me. That's pretty lame that it's not really completely random, because it makes me feel like I was cheated (because like others I believe that SE didn't choose their numbers COMPLETELY randomly.) Oh well, I probably wouldn't have won anyway, but I still would have liked to know that my numbers were, in fact, random.

    Damn those crafty moogles.

How in the world can people assume that they would just wink and pick a new number if there were 'too many' winners? There isn't a legal department or PR department in the world that would think such a thing is ok. Anyone randoming on ps2 had the same shot as the rest of us. Someone didn't beat the 1/10000 odds? There is no other explanation but a conspiracy that would alienate 70% of their customers if it was discovered!!!

    Stuff here

Gdi, gotta retype this again since it prompted me to log back onto site.
Summary: I give you credit Sorrower on the valid point, but its a lottery, people going to be pist that they didn't win, will go to find reasons why they didn't win. You let the moogle random for you, its a fucking lottery, as Rukenshin said. Ok, so SE did screw up with the PS2 only doing Odds/Even randoms(I don't know if this is cause of PS2 limitation, I'm no dev. All I'm sure is /random numbers are generated Server side, don't know if this applies to the moogles as well) I give credit on that defense, but now people are just finding additional ways to say it was rigged. We know with good assumption they did monitor and selective choose numbers.

People were complaining when inflation was at the highest and V.Cloak was over 40 mil here on Phoenix. You got people bitching now cause of the current status of the economy.

Get over it. Game never did change overnight, next year if they do this again, you know what to avoid.

    Always take SE for

    L2fuckingthink.

The point is that even though they were going to change the numbers anywho, they tricked numerous people into using that random function so that the number of winners would be so small. Had the moogle's numbers been truly random, any number they picked would have yielded more winners rather than having a bunch of people shoved into certain patterns while they juked and used different patterns for the winning numbers. Why else would there have been so many rank 5 winners compared to rank 4, considering rank 5 is a possibility with those patterns and none of the other ranks are?

If you're not going to actually think about things, then (insert lengthy sentence reminiscent of Mortal Kombat fatalities that involves a gruesome fate because I'm blowing things way out of proportion and I feel the need to get the last word in because mommy never hugged me.)
