I have yet to see any formal math treatment to show that the numbers were rigged. So consider me unconvinced.
All of this amuses me. So what if it was rigged/PS2 limited/numbers hand-picked by SE? Does it really matter? As far as I know, 56 people won the grand prize. That seems to be a relatively high number. How many marbles were sold across servers? There was 100 000 possible combination of numbers. Im certain there are a whole lot of numbers between 00000-99999 that were not even picked by anyone. Yet somehow, 56 people picked the winning number when, if it was totally random, there could have been 0 winners. All of you crying about this are just trying to justify your loss and blame someone for it. I dont even know why people are doing the maths or finding a reason why the numbers that were picked were picked. Did you expect the numbers to be drawn on national TV like RL lotto? You lost, better luck next time.
My moogle picked marbles didn't exhibiting any of the EOEOE formatting. They had consecutive repeating digits as well... am I reading the EOEOE theory wrong?
Did you select your marbles on PS2?
No, I was on PC at the time.
It was posted on Alla, it had to be true.Originally Posted by aurik
FYI, I didn't win anything at all. Picked number myself, did random moogle stuff, and banged my hands on the number pad RMT-naming style. I figured the later would have been my best shot to win something, guess I was wrong.
I totally picked 00000.

Call a GM, you get this "We have a feedback portion as part of Playonline. We would greatly appreciate any feedback sent to us and 'will futher investigate the matter.'"

Just pointing out what I think people are concerned about. EOEOE or OEOEO (jungle love) holds a pattern, hence isn't random. Some are probably just complaining cause they didn't win. As to the rest...I don't think it has anything to do with what was the winning numbers were or were not but that choosing "random" should of given them what they were told it would be: A random number.ran·dom
1. proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern: the random selection of numbers.
Easy...they rigged the moogle's "random" number generator, which, though you're correct in saying that it's not necessary to use it, I'm sure many people did use it, myself included. I'll just know better next time, if there is a next time. Hopefully others will too. Also, I never said they should redo the event because of this, I just said that even though SE did manually pick the winning numbers, the point is that they rigged the tool (the "random" numbers from moogles) that I'm sure most of the community, let alone the PS2/3 community, used.Originally Posted by Dulek

I don't think they ever said moogles picked randomly, just that you "let the moogle pick for you".Originally Posted by Darrick
Besides, if the randomly selected winning numbers fit the pattern that the moogle used to generate marbles, PS2 users would have benefited from a tremendously increased chance of winning, which mathematically offsets their greatly decreased chance if the randomly selected winning number doesn't match the pattern.
Edit: this would also explain why the prediction of ~8 million marbles from Rank5 doesn't line up with the predictions of about 6.5-7m marbles from the other 4 ranks. I guess about a 10-20% of the marbles generated were done so randomly on PS2.

aww dammit.... didnt read the whole thread but thats what I was thinking when everyone was saying EOEOE and OEOEO werent random numbers....![]()
this thread is kinda goin meh. :/
any bored math nerds? what are the odds behind the five winning numbers not overlapping at all?
not trolling, just curious.
You're right, it's not fact. It would be pretty irresponsible for SE to actually allow too much or too little gil to enter the economy though.Originally Posted by aurik
I also don't think the PS2 EOEOE problem was intentional. It was probley something due to PS2 limitations...seriously.
