    PART 1

Foreword: This is probably riddled with misspellings and grammar problems as I've been preparing this over the last few days. I don't wish to necro this, but the truth should be known.

Let me start by saying that I don't expect you to believe me, because the majority of you do not know me of any sort of familiarity level. That being said I'm going to tell you what I know now and attempt to explain my reasoning to the best of my ability. I will start with the cliff notes because it becomes evident more and more how little reading is actually done.

    - My stuff (sash included) was taken from me by a member of Hex's linkshell

    - I was not the only one they did this to. Fellow members Brizzy and Beverly were also pillaged of their valuables

    - I am not asking for anyone's pity, nor do I contest the fact my actions can be seen as careless

    - I was wrong to request the thread to be locked and took advantage of my friendship with Ashira

    - I wanted it locked because, believing I was hacked by RMT, I did not feel a discussion about me losing the sash would lead to anything but sympathy which I did not want and finger wagging I did not need to understand I was in the wrong

    - There is no cover-up, there were no secrets I wanted hidden

    - I have apologized to my linkshell for my carelessness and the embarrassment I have caused, and I thank them for their forgiveness

Now I'm going to try to follow the outline provided by my cliff notes, but god knows I get prophetic typing these kinds of things and I tend to wander a few places before making my point. Shortly after the reveal by Hex, the person whose forum account was compromised, Chalis, posted on our forums apologizing to the three of us for having a lax password. It should be noted here that this was the FIRST time I had realized it was not in fact an RMT attack. Chalis expressed his frustration with himself for having been careless, much the same as I have done. I have already expressed my feelings to Chalis on this matter, but suffice to say, nothing has changed in our relationship, and I still have every bit of respect I had for him before this. Call me an idealist, but I would not have imagined someone would go so far as to stoop to the level of the RMT in order to enact some sort of "vengeance" against our linkshell. Were we asking for it because his password was lax? Sure, maybe. But, to me at least, you've got to be a pretty fucked up person to live with yourself after pulling this kind of shit.

Our informant, who belongs to the same linkshell as Hex, has confirmed to at least one of us that the culprit does in fact belong to Hex's linkshell. I'm uncertain of whether Hex will try to dispute this fact, but I have one very vivid memory now which has caused me to slam my head against the wall some more. Flashback about a month ago, Khimaira pops, and both of our linkshells run out to claim. My linkshell claims, and starts to get it under control as others are arriving. Hex and his fellow tool, Zeratul, begin spamming in say, as they've done in the past, random rants about how we suck and yadda yadda. For reasons unknown to me at the time, the accusation is thrown out by one of their members, "How many of those characters are actually not being dual-boxed?". Confused, I replied, "none of them, wtf are you talking about?" They reply "That's bullshit, Chalis dual-boxes like 10 characters at a time".

It should be noted that Chalis has had access to other accounts for some time now, but on no occasion other than Einherjar can I recall him having played two characters at the same time. Considering the fact he's our primary tank, and he's playing that job 95% of the time, I have a hard time seeing any substance to such an accusation given the fact that it's not the easiest job in the world to dual-box. My accusation however, is not based solely on this incident. Our 2 linkshells have never gotten along, and I don't intend for this thread to turn into a linkshell vs. linkshell war which I'm sure it undoubtedly will.

Personally, I do not know the exact identity of the culprit and I honestly don’t care if I ever do. 3 other leaders of my linkshell have offered to tell me, but I have instructed them only to answer the question of to which linkshell the person belongs to. Some of you are probably baffled by this, but I ask you what good would come out of me knowing who exactly it was? What difference would it truly make given there is no means to bring “justice” upon this person? I have taken great care to ensure the fact that this person and the informant belongs to Hex's linkshell is indeed a fact and not speculation. Our forums did indeed pick up the IP addresses of our intruders if you're wondering, and they did match names from BG and a certain deleted post. Not to mention that leaving the timestamp on your big "reveal" screenshot, sorta helps us narrow it down as to where to look for an intruder so thank you for that. To the people responsible for this, I really have nothing to say to you. I will never understand what possesses people to behave in such a manner. I just know that these are the kind of people I never want to be around. I don't care what you do with my shit, Brizzy's shit, Beverly's shit. We will all get it back and the BG community will simply have you to thank for creating drama for them.

What hasn't got the publicity it should is that this person not only hacked myself, but 2 other members of the linkshell who had also shared their account information with Chalis via a Private Message. Not only did they see the need to target myself, but hey, why not go for the whole shebang and take 3 people's shit at once. Now I'm not going to contest the “stupidity” of giving one's account info regardless of the means, because this is largely a debate that you're either for or against and there's little middle ground.

The reason Chalis had my account info was for 2 reasons. One, I had taken roughly a 3 month break late last year and I wanted him to have him access to things that the linkshell had obtained for me, specifically things such as the sash. We've had several people in the history of our linkshell show little concern for what the linkshell had done for them, and often times we've entrusted them with gear that is expected to be returned if they should ever decide to quit only to have them disappear without saying a word. The second reason he had my account information and largely the same reason he had Brizzy's information was directly related to the flawed design of the original Einherjar. On more than 3 occasions, the weather in my area had caused power outages. If you live in the Midwest or anywhere affected by tornado season, you should have an idea what I'm talking about. Because he had my information I was still able to progress with them and participate in the higher tiers. Regardless of those reasons, he is someone I trust with the information and if you disagree with that, I can respect that, but I don't agree with you.

A bit more back story into our linkshell is that we have already had 3 people in the linkshell who have had their accounts compromised by RMT, and yes we know it was RMT. One of which had been waiting nearly a month for their character to be restored at the time my shit was taken. I find it entirely insensitive of myself and my peers to treat my compromise as more important than someone I know who had already been going through the same thing for a month. I have never been one to ask for pity, but in this case, I knew a big deal would be made of this and my loss would be portrayed in such higher a priority than hers, or Brizzy’s, or Beverly’s, or anyone else that has been compromised for that matter. Deviating a bit from staying on topic, but since this happened to me, she got back in contact with SE only to find out that they botched her recovery request and it never went through even though she was told repeatedly that it did. People reading this that have been waiting a long time, read that again if you're paying attention. Amazingly though, the representative apologized for the error and they completed her recovery process by the next morning. Once again, I ask you to re-read that if SE has fed you a bunch of bull shit about the process being complicated.

I'm well aware my actions were careless in giving my account information to another member via a Private Message on our forums. I ask only that when you scorn me for doing so, you realize the fact that had it not been for someone doing something that even I would put past the likes of Hex that this would not of happened. Once again, I remind you I'm a bit of idealist in this regard that people can be assholes but there are boundaries that still baffle me when they are crossed.

    PART 2

This leads me to Ashira and my reasoning for doing what I did there. If you had no opinion on the matter of the locking the thread, you can probably skip to the end then. Now it's important to keep context in mind, the first time I spoke to her I was still of the belief that it was just another RMT hijacking. I realized it was not an RMT attack at the same time you all did. As Ashira told you, I made it a point of being the first person who informed her I was hacked because I knew her reaction would be to come here and blab all about it which I have already discussed why I did not want. She did however, try to convince me as others did, that this was not an RMT attack. Idealist in mind again, I did not want to believe that someone would stoop to the same level as the RMT. I admittedly waited longer than I should of to update flash, did not change my password since it was discovered, and had been slacking in general as of late in terms of locking things down. I had several decent reasons to believe this was just another RMT attack. Soon after it happened, the account was locked, I made my GM call from another character, and largely was told nothing could be done until Monday, shocker!

Upon seeing this thread appear I was agitated with Ashira to say the least that she could not respect my desire to just leave it alone. I am not foolish enough to believe there would be no big thread and there would be no big drama involved, but I did not want her, my friend, to be the reason for this happening. She signed onto our ventrilo upon which I told her, in a heated manner I admit, there is no point in such a thread. You will get 2 responses to such a thread. A) This guy's an idiot yadda yadda had it coming yadda yadda, which has already been established and B) I feel sorry for this guy, which again I did not want in light of our own member's struggle to get her account back. Once again, at this point, I am still assuming no one would be jackass enough to pull this shit other than RMT. I told her such a thread was pointless and nothing positive would come out of it, other than same old tired horse-beating that gets us nowhere. Having convinced her of that, and probably feeling guilty that she did let it slip in at least a small way, she locked the thread.

Should she have locked the thread? I'm still going to contend that given the information we had, I believe she should of. Was it wrong of me to ask her to do so? Sure it was. I openly admit the fact that I took advantage of my friendship with her in getting her to lock it. I was tired of talking about it by then; I was ashamed at myself for having embarrassed my linkshell, and no amount of scrutiny from my peers, was going to make me understand why I was foolish. I assure you, I'm harder on myself than any of you have been to me. I'm not going to contest the fact you should call into question Ashira's judgment in locking the thread for me. I'm simply going to say to realize that I share blame in this. I've known Ashira at least as long as you all have and probably better than 80% of you. Her judgment is not flawless, she and I disagreed entirely on Taj for instance, but she does stand for things that are righteous rather than the popular decision. I apologize to those of you who feel I impeded your "right" to chastise a fool. I shouldn't have to say this at this point, but my reasons for wanting the thread locked are simply those I have described above. There is no hidden agenda here or cover-up here; as much as some may like there to be.

I have largely stayed out of this thread upon learning the truth because for the most part the criticism thrown my way is something I'm not going to contest. What amazes me now though is had the thread stay locked. Had it been left at me just being hacked by an RMT as we all believed. The culprit would have gotten away with this and we would have moved on from this as we're looking to do now. You see, Hex and his lackeys, are a wee bit egotistical. If you question anything I've said about him, I implore you to ask his peers on the Odin server such as Vagus, or Kaeko. Thanks to his ego, he didn't want it to end with just me being compromised by an RMT. No, he had to go and uncover his member's entire plot in order to get the thrill of being this great all-knowing person. Now some of you may applaud him for doing so, which you're certainly entitled to do, but I've never been one to want to glamorize those who have clearly done wrong. I'm not the kind of person who can look at an attractive person who gets raped and tell them they had it coming because their outfit was revealing or suggestive. It's a difference in personality and it's something we all have to live with.

I'm going to end this by repeating the things that need to be said by me in order to rectify what I've caused in my eyes. I'm sorry to my linkshell for having been careless with something they worked so hard for and creating this embarrassing situation. I'm sorry to Ashira and the moderators of this forum for unjustly "working the system" to get this thread locked. I'm sorry to those of you who felt the thread should have never been locked, because clearly NOW we know it shouldn't have. I don't expect all of you to accept my apologies, and I don't expect half of you to believe me as I said to begin this. I've stated my peace now and I would like to leave it at that.

It was a good move to post that, I respect your honesty. Let this serve as a lesson to everyone else who isn't being as secure as they should be. You should never give your account info out to anyone, and in the rare case of doing so, should make sure that it's in a secure manner. Being naive is silly. People will jump at any opportunity to steal your hard-earned items.

I'll say good luck to Auron, I'm glad he's seen his error and I think he learned his lesson. Would be a little more epic to know exactly who did this, though. ;D

Adding to Therin's post, if someone gives you account info via pm, the least you should do is delete the pm.

Proponents of the "sharing account info is okay" theory are crazy. If your account info is ANYWHERE on the internetz, it can be taken.

So, who is the new owner of the Sash?

(Since people say it had been sold already)

Good post, interesting read and it somewhat revives this thread and the whole story. I want to know what happened to the sash too.

Ohithere come back and post more than one word.

If I were Stan I totally would've bought it with the LS bank, too rare of an opportunity to pass up.

Yes, because the rest of Ex would allow such a thing to go on. >.> And if someone from Ex doesn't have the gil to buy it at 200m, I doubt many other people on the server would, which would be the ONLY justification I can think of for Stan to buy it with the LS bank, so they can sell it to someone else and profit. Unless I live under a box and there's tons of rich people, but all I ever hear is people bitching about being broke, so I fail to see how they could possibly hope to profit off it.

Otherwise, using Ex's LS bank to buy something like that would ... IDK ... piss off their members? Maybe?

Especially if it gets deleted by SE like previous tracked stolen items have been.

If we did that, I'd be kind of upset. The best part about having that sash is a trophy for beating AV IMO. Buying it is kind of like saying, "We couldn't do it, so we threw gil at it!"

Unless we got an awesome deal!
