I am a little confused though, because I thought that as long as they didn't try to sell it they should be able to release it avoiding copyright laws; similar to the way that guy was doing that megaman movie on here not to long ago?

It could probably be stopped via Trademark law, since it could confuse people (people are dumb) into thinking it was a square product. Blah blah blah endgame scenerio. Also under copyright law, you could see it as similar to a pirated video, in that people get to see the story and the expression of ideas without remuneration to the company that created them.

It's pretty obvious they were using tremendous amounts of copyrighted material without permission. The music, the written story, the characters etc. They had no rights to it. It's not a matter of them trying to sell it. You just can't use someone else's work in this manner.

You guys, CTDS obviously translates Cactus Training DS. Raise cacti from seed to full-grown cactus using the Nintendo DS's internal clock to match real time with game time. You can give them new abilities and skills as they grow and have them battle with your friends all over the globe!

Yeah, I was so pissed when SE nixed that project. I understand why, but couldn't they have just hired the guys instead?

It wasn't going to go anywhere anyways. A couple of friends trying to remake an entire epic RPG like that in 3D would take ages, they'd get bored and quit.


Oh, btw, if you read up on the game:

-There are no graphical changes, it is going to remain in 2D.
-Touch screen functionality will be added, they are unclear on what that actually entails.
-An additional endgame dungeon or two is going to be added.
-Multiplayer support is being added (Will it be a minigame or what? who knows!)
-It is being released in both NA and JP for the Holiday Season (Q4 2008 )

They won't be touching the core game at all, no worries.

I kinda wish they had upped the graphics a little bit. I don't mean 3D and cutscenes like FFIV DS, but just some little polish. From the trailer, it seems like its a direct port of an SNES game, which worked just fine back when we were on the GBA, but if you're gonna do that for DS I expect something more. At least make the specials look better. I mean, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 has sprites barely better than its GBA predecessor, but its spell/ability animations are much, much nicer. Seems like they just copy pasted the game onto a DS cart and then slapped a new dungeon on.

Incredible news especially for me. I still haven't finished Trigger(even though I've got the ROM on OS X, just a little low on freetime lately). Definitely buying this one.

And hopefully this'll be a remake with better graphics and such, like FF3.

It doesn't show any menu/interface improvements or how they use both DS screens. It doesn't hint at the new dungeon or any new features. This trailer is BAD and it makes me sad because I do so love this game.

Who cares about the trailer? The trailer isn't going to make or break how good the game is when it comes out.

If it's for personal nonprofit use then its legal.

Look at BYOND someone made an EXACT copy of the SNES FF4 game online. SE tried to sue him and because they added multiplayer feature it was considered a different game or something like that. Anyway as long as its not for profit and private use only he could do whatever the fuck he wanted.

Except that if it could take away from the profit of the Copyright holder it is illegal (ie. someone downloading their game instead of buying it)
