Could be they are planning to re-release/remake CC with that being the case (as was originally the plan, not sure why it was taken out in the final version). I can dream but perhaps they would do it on the DS with CT like graphics and battle system. Of course it's a thousand times more likely they are just dumb and doing it for the hell of it.

Because Magus/Janus was Guile in Radical Dreamers, a game that revealed the total back story of how that whole situation happened, but it was released on some obscure peripheral for the SNES (I'm sure someone here could probably recall the name of it). The game was originally supposed to be a predecessor to CC, but due to how obscure the title and information was, they scrapped the idea early in the production of Chrono Cross, and just made Guile a stock character without changing his looks.

They went and added the shadow in what's-her-name's lab, which I guess was supposed to be Magus/Janus, but they never really made anything clear about what happened to him, other than the fact that he wasn't Guile.

There is translated rom on the net if people want to play it, was a fun game (text based) if you liked Chrono Cross. Only take a few hours at most.

And yes, Guile isn't Magus or Janus. They were originally meant to be the same, but that part was scrapped. The only thing that remain is the cameo/similarities with Guile from Radical Dreamers.

I don't really mind the change that much, because originally, it was suposed to be him, but Guile was such a lame character in Chrono Cross it's sorta lame to link Magus to him. They should link Guile to Magus (in CC) and not Magus to Guile (in CT)

Will the new ending make sense if you haven't played CC? I played a part of it a while ago, but I never owned the game.

You caught my interest with that. How would linking Guile to Magus be any different than linking Magus to Guile?

At the end of the day, you're still linking one of the most badass characters in the Chrono series to some lame stock character that they had originally planned to be him and just decided to not change his appearance.

Because Magus to Guile still doesn't work with what was said in Chrono Cross, but if they altered Guile instead, it would make some sort of sense.

Basically, it's Guile character that need to be modified to fit in, not Magus. Why? Because it's easier to simply retcon Guile, instead of retconning both Guile and Magus. This, and nobody like Guile.

Ah, I didn't quite read it like that originally, but I see it now. Yeah, it'd be easier to retcon Guile instead, since he had like zero backstory and zero personality.

They'd almost have to change his look too, because after the Prophet outfit, I just can't see Magus dressing up like Tuxedo Mask in all white to go undercover.

So... Am I getting this right? Magus gets a case of explosive amnesia and thrown into the dimension where Chrono Cross takes place. Meanwhile, Dalton raises an army in Porre, burns down Guardia and steals the masamune in 1005? This new ending raises a lot of questions.

Pretty much. I don't like this convoluted new ending that attempts to explain the links to Chrono Cross.

Clearly there's a lot I missed/forgot from Chrono Cross which is a game that always confused me anyway considering that I don't think the game was actually completed. There seemed to be so many storylines in that game that were just left hanging.

Wow, it actually look great in 3D. It's pretty damn good for a fanmade thing.

No shit. There's a lot of bitching on the gamefaqs boards about all the people pirating this, but you know what? Please do. Go for it. Squenix doesn't deserve to make a cent off of this game. I wonder how much longer they can go on porting their classics before they go under. I'd almost like to see it happen at this point. Either that or some serious changes in leadership, and I mean huge changes.

Uhh, not that I have any nerdrage towards Squenix lately, no not at all. Fuckers.
