    dynamis

    Hi!

I just recently hit 75 BRD and would like to join a dynamis ls to get some relic equipment for BRD. There seems to be two kinds of shells. Ones that are free and ones where you have to split the hourglass fee.

My question is, is dynamis profitable? I'm assuming its around 30k per dynamis run if I have to pay, but I also get currency that I can sell. Will I break even? or should I join a free shell.

Reason I ask is because its hard to farm on BRD ; ; I don't know how long I can keep paying 60k each week.

    Thanks ^^

Since you are a BRD, you can pretty much join any shell as long as your current gear is decent.

Whichever kind of linkshell you join, just make sure you will be able to lot stuff soon (3 - 5 runs with the shell)

fucking fuckers can't read at all I swear. Is Dynamis profitable???

Simple answer is yes, more so the better a linkshell you join.

If you LS clears out a zone fully you will get a good amount of coinage to break even atleast. At first I was thinking you would be able to profit maybe with a smaller LS but then it's a bigger cost to enter so, they both would probably even out in the end.

Also AF, although BRD AF2 is pretty weaksauce anyway.

Thanks Shihei, thats what I wanted to know.

I beg to differ about the weakness of BRD AF2

From my experience, pay shells 80%(?) of the time suck and you won't break even and needless drama will probably ensue upon entering icelands. Of course that assumes the shell can handle icelands.

Of course this doesn't mean the free shells don't suck.

As shihei said, yeah dynamis can be very profitable. ATM for the shell I run, we avg about 25 people a run and get at least 200 singles in cities with at least one hundred almost every run. (we made two TH4 players)

Granted we're a free shell but if members had to pay entrance then it'd be
    1m/25 = 40k entry fee
    200/25= 8 singles
    40/8= 5k

So singles would have to sell for at least 5k to break even on a bare minimum run. This excludes the misc drops that sell for 1-100k. Sandy you'd most definitely profit and most likely profit in every city with our shell if it were pay.

BRD AF2 has 2 good really pieces that are very near to optimal for their slot. 2 out of 5 is a lot better than most jobs.

it can be profitable but it's not really worth the hassle.

If you're doing it for gil, you're doing it wrong. It can be profitable but most of the time you're lucky to break even, unless you have a minimum payout system setup for money lotters. If that's the case, then you probably can't lot AF.

Basically, do Dynamis either for the AF2 or to upgrade a relic. Don't do it for any other reason.

Roundlet: Awesome, trumped only by Marduk.
    Justacorps: Useless.
Cuffs: Trumped by AF1, AF+1 even better.
Cannions: Stoneskin or MP build, trumped by Marduk or AF+1. Probably better to wear than AF1, though.
    Slippers: Useless.

What was the second piece you were talking about? Unless you're seeing something I'm not, but I'd consider AF+1 pants easier to obtain than a Xarcabard piece.

Thanks everyone for all the replies!

I'm not doing it for profit, I just wanted to know if I can break even if I join a pay shell. Because I probably wont last a few weeks if I'm not breaking even.

Also I want the BRD AFv2^^

The Dynamis shell I am in has been very profitable for me. It is a pay shell, and must be part of the 20% that doesn't suck at doing it. The only zone that's not profitable in the least is Tavnazia, and we don't touch that one very often. It is also the only zone we have yet to win...

On average, I make about 300k a month, but usually closer to 400k, just doing dynamis. Granted, buy chosing to do runs for a cash payout, I've missed some Relic gear, but that was my choice.

The way the shell runs, you have the choice of doing the run for:
Motivational Points (extra points for attending, no lotting anything, unless it goes freelot)
Money (you get a payout at the end of the run, and you lot the money items that drop; can only lot Relic that goes freelot)
Relic (you have 1 primary job, and secondary jobs over 50. Primary jobs lot Relic before someone who has it as a secondary)
Currency [reserved for members who are actively upgrading a Relic Weapon] (this is how the money people are paid. LS members who are going currency get it at a discounted rate. The money collected from this pays those who are going money. Currency upgraders also recieve a payout but do not lot money items. Again, may only lot Relic that goes freelot.)

AF+1 is a macro only piece that is useless most of the time. Byakko's is better to use when you're not using MP, and AF2 is much better when you are using MP (which lots of BRDs do).

don't see how your analysis of it makes my statement inaccurate.

If you don't have Marduk's and you use your BRD for something more than meripo I'd much rather have AF+1 than relic. I don't need MP, I'm hume and have 8 MP merits. I have a tonne of CHR, I'd rather have 8 skill than 8 CHR and I have zenith (meh) if I really need MP...

Relic hat = win. Relic pants - situational depending on race. Relic hands meh. Relic Body and feet = LOL.

Dunno, I'm having a very hard time seeing how AF2 comes close to AF1+1. I'm rarely out of MP on BRD and I use it plenty (well, assuming I'm not on BRD/BLM or something). Also, I'd hardly consider something you macro in for every song short of Ballads 'useless most of the time.' Byakko's Haidate take that title.

Those pants (AF2) were awesome back in the day when limbus didn't exist and BRD/WHM was the standard because doing anything other than songs and back up healing was unheard of. However BRD has changed substantially in the past few years. People used to think I was crazy when I farmed sky nonstop because I wanted haidate for BRD and now it's practically considered a standard piece. I use AF2 legs only for my stoneskin macro because it's nice not to lose MP on the leg slot (like equipping mahatma would do). If you have no means of doing salvage or limbus (really should try to do these though) then it's a good all-around piece. Honestly though at this point most gear is a "macro only" piece but if I was forced to pick one for full time use it would be Marduk.

In regards to the OP question, as people have said you shouldn't have any problems affording dynamis. If you are in a shell that allows you to get some of the currency you can sell it directly and otherwise, you're not paying for the glass at all so it's free. Even if you had to pay, you can easily make enough gil to pay for small stuff in FF just by making sure sell the drops you get in merit parties, assuming you merit on a regular basis. This will also give you IS which you can in turn use to make some gil with ISNMs. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Maybe I'm missing something here or maybe it's because I only use my BRD in certain ways but why would you consider Haidate 'standard' for a BRD these days? I don't mean in terms of getting them, I could have had some if I'd wanted but there's always another melee that could use so I haven't bothered.

5% haste is pretty godly for a lot of things I'll acknowledge that and I can see it for meripo but I think I'm missing why when the duration of most songs is considerable you'd really need them. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong though.

For my WHM I have a haste setup, so I'm not unfamiliar with it (nashira/swiftbelt/walmart/blessed/cap staff etc) but I think I'm missing the point with BRD. Fast cast, I have a bunch of but what am I missing with pure haste outside merits?

This is all from a non-exp point of view since it's obvious to most people how haste benefits a BRD there (pulling/utsu recast etc).

From my perspective, in any event where BRD is doing crowd control 1s off of lullaby is far from wasted. The closer you can get to 12s recast on it the better off you (and your group) are. This is particularly true in Einherjar where many of the mobs are either immune or resistant to black magic sleep. When my LS does Einherjar BRDs get both haste and direct WHM support to help them sleep things, recast is absolutely critical there. This also holds true for a low man dynamis run where a BRD will be a primary sleeper.

When I say "standard", I don't mean that if you don't have it you're gimp. I mean that it's a fairly common item for anyone who's been a BRD for a long time to have. Most people who've been playing this game for years now have done a ton of sky and depending on how your linkshell distributes items (points/effort/tenure) many have obtained them. I'd say they're far more common than say, Marduk's cannions at this point despite Marduk's being arguably the best all-around BRD pants in the game.

I'm going to assume you mean recast and not duration. Aside from the aforementioned Lullaby recast, BRD debuffs are unique in that they can be overwritten. One example of where this is useful is in Zhayolm Remnants. You can apply Requiem to frogs and re-apply before it wears so there's a guaranteed fresh DoT on in case it charms everyone. The shorter the song recast, the more often it can be applied, extending the length of the DoT. This is also useful in higher level mobs that are hard to debuff (Ouryu, Bahamut). While the haste is great in that situation, I wouldn't recommend using it because you'll need to use the higher skill/CHR gear for a better shot at landing it in the first place.

I'm not going to compare the utility of them in mages vs melees since we're only talking about how they affect BRD. How useful they are to you personally depends greatly on your play style. Many BRDs prefer to play a more passive support role and they probably wouldn't use them as much as someone who prefers a more active or aggressive play style. Needless to say, they are a fantastic piece for any job that can equip it and if any job falls to the bottom of the haidate "need" barrel it's probably RNG now.

No, I realise you weren't painting people with the gimp stick, just was interested. I've been playing since the EU release, so 3-4 years but I've only been in two shells who did or have done Sky. The first broke before the haidate list came close to mine and the second is my own which right now is once more burnt out with sky. We don't do Einherjar at the moment but there are plans to, we have done Salvage but I'm usually WHM for that.

We're at the point where I could reasonably lot on some but I just haven't desperately seen the need as BRD is the only job I have which can equip. They'd be nice but not critical. And full god gear is ugly as hell >.>

I suspect that the issue is for me, when we're doing tougher fights I'm always going to end up WHM.
