no. the screen is made of tempered glass, only issue is oil residue from arm and wrist, however the tablet comes with a cleaning cloth made of a special fiber that removes the oil without smudges - it's really nice, I ordered extras.

also the 1100 was ONLY hardware, I had them remove extended warranty, all the junkware, and since I already had Office I removed that as well, plus I searched the internet for gateway coupon codes that saved me an extra 300 off the reg price.

plus when you order online a rep calls you the next day and offers you better deals then online, which I thought was kind of odd, so i didn't accept them thinking there'd be some catch - later I read some testimonials online from several people who took them up on their special offers and saved more money... no catch, so I felt a little dumb for not taking the time to listen to their spiel... oh well.

Gateway now is technically Acer, with MPC doing the service side (and they suck). Company was bought out last year.
I have around 60 or so Gateway M285-E tablets in the computers I support... "it's a tablet" is about the only good thing I'd have to say about the model.

and like I said I purchased it in late October so this ALL I heard from everyone, however it looks as of packard bell was acquired by Acer, which was just recently acquired by Gateway,so... yeah...

It's a little less straightforward than that. It didn't used to be Packard Bell. The brand was previously owned by NEC, but due to poor (and deserved) reputation, it stopped being sold in the U.S. in 2000. Apparently their rep wasn't bad in Europe, so the name was still used there.

It was acquired by John Hui, who had previously owned eMachines before selling it to....Gateway >_>
When Acer bought Gateway, they also got controlling interest in Packard Bell (not sure exactly how), which puts it under the same Acer umbrella. However, it's not that the company used to be Packard Bell or anything.

What Gateway -used- to be was a direct-mail builder that produced some quality machines. That day has long since passed, but such is the case with most of them.
