    Cooking as of late

I took up Cooking to 36 about two years ago but stopped for a while due to events then later entering University. Have some time now to get it up along wish Fishing.

My question is how is Cooking for profit (if you're fishing your own stuff included) in the current economy?

maybe just fishing? I've recently taken leather upto 71 quite cheaply on a mule but that involved a lot of TH4 hide farming. There's a nice leathercrafting topic somewhere on the 1st page here. I have cooking at 99 on my main, and the only thing I use it for is to make myself apple pie +1s lol

Cooking is quite horrible for profit atm. Well, maybe not for profit, but the effort you have to put in makes it not very efficient at all. Run around for NPC mats halfway across the world (or mule a lot, which is still a lot of effort), craft up stack upon stack of food, fill 28AH slots, then wait for it to sell. And then make something like an 80k profit. woo!

It's not bad to level to 60 if you enjoy fishing, if only to make your own bait, but as a main craft, meh.

Interesting idea but it just occured to me that SE said they wanted to make more mage based foods and such in the near future? It may be a good investment especially "if" getting to 100 isn't expensive for Cooking (is it currently with the way the economy is?)

In the mean time I may take Fishing up as you say just to have it ready also for whatever reason and make some little gil on the side too

I dabbeld in every craft imaginable but I ended up choosing Cooking as my main simply because I got frustrated with all the crap involved with the other crafts. If I ever want to take up another craft to 100 I have a mule ready to go that already has Alchemy at 40 so im not worried. Its not like Cooking will be my only profit maker. Besides you can make a decent amount of money with subs at 60 along with Cooking 100 lol.

Closest thing I've seen so far are cream puffs from the last update- +7 INT is nice, but it's not +MAtk or +MAcc food or the like. It's still been really nice food for my Scholar to use working his way up the levels.

If you're good at organizing shit, farming spider webs/seals outside Whitegate and then spamming KS30/BCNMs is probably the same or better money as Cooking+Fishing.

I do the Cooking+Fishing thing though and until recently had like 10 stacks of seals lying around because I hate making parties to go do the KS/BCNMs. Whether it's decent money or not depends on the day. (i.e. am I getting Gigant Squids every other bite or all Cone Calamary? did I get a ~50% hq rate on a tier 2 synth or 1/12? etc). Bad days are ~50k gil, good ones are 200k. Most are somewhere in between.

This is fishing with a Lu's though, Cooking+Fishing is complete garbage moneywise without it. (Or with it depending on your definition of "good money." )

It's HP-10 so it wont effect any blm sorc ring macros. It'd just put you at a lower % than you are used to already.

I'm a level 90 cook and 56 fisher with Lu Shang. I have basically stopped cooking as it is far easier to profit by just fishing and selling the fish IMO. You can still profit though with cooking. It is just very small and the items just move too slow in comparison to my fish sales for me to invest anything else into it.

I just craft on my main and send the stuff I make to my NPC, bazaar it over night and while I am at work. I enjoy cooking which is why I do it, and I am currently at 75.

I leveled cooking up on my mule casually, sent the mule about 15k starter fund, farmed/gardened hell of a lot of my own ingredients and ended up at 95+2 cooking and about a million gil on the said mule (this was last year, I started as a new year resolution to finally level a craft to Veteran and hit 95 shortly before Xmas). Total end profit just from leveling the craft was probably double or close to triple that because I had two other mules in Jeuno trying to get rid of the all food I cooked for skill ups. This took the whole year as a very casual side project, so yes you can make money with cooking but it is horrendously slow and time consuming. I strongly recommend having a mule in every city so you can get ingredients you need regardless which nation is controlling said areas. And you can never look forward to the big money making +1 synths, it's all slow and steady. I still cook sometimes but even mining or logging are better gil over time.

So yeah... if you're in need of serious gil stick to fishing and selling the raw material or pick another craft.
