Road Trip - Seattle -> San Jose

So my best friend and I will be taking a road trip to San Jose to see a Coldplay concert.

We will be driving out late Wednesday night, and returning home on Sunday night. The concert is Friday night. I am pretty sure our plans are to stay in San Francisco, then drive to San Jose for the concert and back to San Francisco afterward.

He also wants to drive back up the coastline via 101.

Does anyone have any ideas for what we can do/see along the way? We won't have that much time... Thursday night (maybe depending on how long the drive takes) in San Francisco, Friday afternoon in San Jose before the concert, then we will either start driving back on Saturday or early Sunday.

    Gay? lol. I am a girl. =P

And I guess I am hoping to hear from some local people/people that have lived in the area to give us a good idea on what to visit, or things to see.

Drop by Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland, any time of night you visit. The link I provided takes you to their menu, which has some crazy options. They also have some great doughnuts and some weird ones, such as the Cock-n-Balls:

Highly recommended. It's in downtown, not too far off I-5 if you're looking for something to break up the drive.

The last time I was there it was Portland's Annual Midnight Naked Run, and we passed a handful of naked people on the way there (even some cute chicks). It was a good time.

Coldplay is okay. It is my friend's favorite band, and this gives us an excuse to take a road trip.

Never said girls can't be gay, but I did mention that my best friend was a he. xD

Thanks, Byrd. =D We will definitely stop in there. Hopefully there are no naked people though haha.

I watched that movie once, so catching jokes from it is unlikely lol.

I am sure we will. We somehow managed to have fun in the rain at Woodland Park Zoo on Saturday, so fun shouldn't be a problem.

Unless my car breaks down or something.

Which there is no reason why it should. >>

I haven't been to the Woodland Park Zoo since I was a kid. I had a hard-on for the Nocturnal Building and the dome that has all the birds and weird bugs in it.

Everything else was meh. Hippo area was fun sometimes.

Funny that you mention the hippos lmao. We were just standing there watching them (there was 3 in the water) and one of them just got up and started charging at absolutely nothing, then he would kind of jaunt back to the water, then a little bit later he would do the same thing! Funniest thing ever lol.

We did Point Defiance last year, and we were going to go down to Pike Place then Gameworks and instead went to the zoo lol.

Pike Place Market on the other hand. :O :O :O

Going there for breakfast early early in the morning = epic.

What a coincidence, I will be taking a roadtrip from Seattle to San Jose next month (although in my case, I am moving to SJ permanently). If you do find anything interesting, should post up about it so I can know!

Edit: I agree w/ Kiro too, Pike Place = awesome, Gameworks = blah, don't know how its still in business honestly. If you're around Pike Place again sometime, the Steelhead Diner is a great place to eat, cheap food (8-12 bucks a plate) and the servings are gigantic and can feed two people. Their Fried Chicken Sandwich = :Q

Stop by my casa to get some beers? Nah theres pretty much nothing between the city and san jose, just boring towns. In san jose theres some decent stuff but nothing really great. If you like clubs there are a few downtown. When you pass Palo Alto / Mountain view get burgers at the Oasis (Palo alto/Menlo Park) or the boardwalk (Mountain view) pretty good food.

    hmmm

If you are serious about wanting to stay in SF, you may want to rethink your plans.
It's a 1+ hour drive from SF to San Jose. Take into account the traffic after the concert and you will be spending roughly 2 hours getting out of there.
101 (in the Bay Area) is wretched on Friday nights as well. You are better off staying in San Jose or even Oakland than you are staying in SF. (SF will cost you more and you will need more travel time if time is an issue).

Not sure what route you were planning to use coming down to California, there are all kinds of crazy things to see. Check out Mount Shasta if you are taking Hwy 5 down.

Stuff to do in San Jose

http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/ <- Way cool. If you have already been bummer its a great way to kill a couple of hours.

Also less visited is Angel Island in the SF Bay. Really awesome stuff out there if you have the time.

Yea definitely don't commute from SF to SJ just for a concert on Friday night. It's a long way, 1hr if no traffic, and I guarantee there will be traffic. There's always traffic.

Instead, I'd suggest staying in SJ and, if there's something specific in SF you want to see, take the Caltrain up to the city. Much easier, and much cheaper, because gas is hella expensive around here.

There's terrific food basically all over the place here. I work within walking distance of the main drag in Mountain View and eat at a different place every day for lunch. It's awesome.
