Ohshi, you live in mountain view? Hes right you can go to a diff place within walking distance in mountain view. We used to own a restaurant down there a while back so i know most of the places... they are decent. Down town Palo alto, one town over has some amazing places downtown. My friends family owns like 6 places down there and its pretty much all good.

these guys are supposed to be one of the top craft breweries in the US. if you enjoy beer beyond keg stands it'll probably be worth the trip.
there should be a ton of wineries along the way down too, no?
When I was in college, I would always spend my spring breaks doing something with one of my H.S. buddies who went to a different college. One year we did the same trip but in reverse. (He had a frat buddy whose parents had a house on an island in Vancouver.)
My friend had a map of all the local breweries along the coast and we stopped at almost every one on the way up the 101. I got a lot of good education on my ales. He always chose the lighter ales and I chose the dark ones. Of course we traded sips too, in the non-gay way. In other words, I let him lick it off my nipple. (Wait, a minute. On retrospect, I guess that could be viewed as gay. No wonder the locals gave us strange looks.)
And you will be passing through the Redwood National Parks. It's a good way to take a couple hour break before you take the final stretch.
if your over 21, may want to stop by napa and see the wineries. Winchester Mystery House is also another cool thing to check out since you will be in the area. And yes, for the love of god, don't stay in frisco. you'll want to murder babies or something, on top of the stupid 4 dollar bridge toll, it will take you 2+ hrs to get to the concert.
Note: Neither of us are 21.
Thanks for all the ideas. Our original plan way to stay in San Jose, but my friend's grandma told him it was a bad idea lmao.
I am thinking we will just take I-5 down as far as possible on Wednesday night/Thursday. We just want to get there, then spend our time coming back home.
Weird, friend and I are roadtripping from Seattle to San Jose (checking out housing in SD, but staying with a friend in SJ for a few weeks for fun.) in August so let me know if you find any cool must visit type places along the way. Hope you have fun, Coldplay is nice hope the concert is good.
Palo Alto's a fine place to get food as long as you're taking the train. There's one usable public parking structure in the area and if you've never used it you're never going to find it (underground). Pretty much any restaurant down University Ave and environs is going to satisfy, so just pick what suits your taste. I'm partial to:

Burgers and shakes.
Mountain View is a little harder to get good eats if you're on CalTrain, most restaurants are spread out, but the parking is better if you're in a car. It's been a while for me but you can still get some pretty decent eastern cuisine there (Indian, Thai, etc.) I reckon.
You know that shitty Mexican place near where domino's used to be? We used to own an awesome restaurant there, El Paso, but we sold the space was getting to expensive to keep it open and we only had so many child laborers to do our work... love family restaurant been employed since i was 10!
Thats good shit though I work at the best buy by costco... for the time being. That is until I get accepted to start my apprenticeship as an electrician.... but seriously.... Tied House is good stuff. Beer there is good..
So it is almost 3:00am and I just got home from my trip. We left around 11:00pm Wednesday night and arrived in San Francisco at 12:00pm or so on Thursday. We decided to stay in San Francisco because there was a lot more to do than in San Jose.
Thursday we were both so tired from not sleeping and just driving that all we really did was sleep and watch HBO in our hotel room, which was actually really nice.
Friday we got up and went to Fisherman's Wharf and spent some time at Pier 39 then drove to San Jose and went to the Winchester Mystery House. It was cool, so kudos to whomever it was that suggested it, but definitely not worth more than $20 for the tour...
Then of course we had the concert, the main reason why we went. It was great, and made the trip worth it. Drove back to San Francisco afterwards, crashed, and drove home Saturday. We were planning on stopping in Grant's Pass overnight to sleep so we could do stuff on Saturday, but we were both broke and just wanted to be home.
