Yes, compared to the PC CIV games, you might find Revolution a little less involved. The Demo only gives you so much to work with. The full game adds in quite a bit more. Got my copy yesterday, and have been enjoying it ever since. Even the wifey got completely sucked in by this game, haha.

So some people must have this now.

    How do you like it?

I haven't ever played Civilization. But played the Old School Colonization back in the day, also played SimCity and stuff like that. This game looks really interesting, just want to hear some more experiences before I pick it up.

I didn't like the look of this as a console Civ I couldn't quite see how it was going to work - so, so far I've passed on it.

Having said that... it IS Civ and Civ will always be my first gaming love (and the reason I almost fucked up my degree lol) so I might well pick up a copy anyhow.

Its pretty good actually. But there isn' much reason buying it if you've got Civilization IV for PC/OS X.

I decided to just send Ninja Gaiden 2 back, so CivR should be the next thing in the mail from Gamefly.

Pretty much what Mayareira said. If this is your first Civ game, it's awesome. If you've been playing past CIV games on PC, you might find it a little lacking in some places. I've played them all a few times, but never very serious; just borrowed a friends games a few times. I enjoy CivR quite a bit, and feel they did an excellent job in developing a console version of Civ.

The one thing I'm noticing so far is Mega City strats are very tough to take out after they get rolling. With no worry about food for your cities, you can just pump settlers in different cities, and move them to your Capital.

If you have PC Civ games, I would classify CivR as a rental to try and see if you enjoy it before throwing down $60. One nice thing about getting a copy now, BestBuy, Target, and Gamestop each have their own exlusive DLC for the game. You can't redeem it yet but shou be able to in a couple of weeks...

Went and bought it (had crap day at work, needed retail therapy). While the amusement of watching my units twonk the opposition with hammers/swords/bows/pokey sticks hasn't yet waned... it is very easy compared to regular Civ games. Passed an entertaining evening and will probably pass more though.

Personally I still think Civ2 was gaming perfection though

Yeah Civ2 was my first game in the series and I spent years playing it. I actually bought CivR today and have been playing it all day, there is a tiny something missing from Civ2. Seems like the game just goes so much faster, you can't do custom maps, things like that. But I dunno, I guess I have lot more of the game to complete.

Apparently the higher difficulties are REALLY hard.

I don't know if I'll be getting this game. Civ4 really peaked for me, the balance between the depth being there and not having to necessarily use it was pretty perfect imo.

Upon playing this further, I kinda regret buying it instead of just renting. Hopefully I can get some money back by selling on eBay soon. But basically, even compared to Civilization 2, the only other game in the series I played, this one seems empty. A game can last a few hours, which doesn't really allow you to sit back and enjoy the wonder of being the first civilization to discover Monarchy, or be the first to build the Oracle of Delphi. (It becomes obsolete when another civ discovers religion, which comes 10 or 15 minutes later.)

Don't get me wrong, it's really fun. But with the size of the world map being as small as it is and games completing in as much time as they do, it really makes me wonder if this was just meant to be a few hours of strategy fun for console owners. If that's the case, I don't really think this is worth 60 dollars.

Rented this the other day. The world map being so small really inhibits the gameplay, this is probably my biggest complaint thus far. The speed of the game is also way too fast. This might be caused by the size of the maps and the fact that there is no real exploration or large land masses.

The little nuances that they added to the game are cool but really don't make up for the loss of strategy. Units upgrading and getting special skills is a nice touch (They probably had this before but i think I've only played Civ 1 and Civ 2).

I havn't gotten to play a good game online yet but I will try that out this week. I did manage to beat the game of the week last night which was some map where you start as the Russians. I won in a Domination Victory just before 2000 AD and am currently ranked 43rd on the list of completions. Looks like the list really only goes by how fast (what year) you won which was kinda lame as well.

Anyhow, it's addictive but short lived. Glad I didnt buy this one... too bad it costs $10 to rent a game from Blockbuster now haha.

That's crazy. Glad I have a Gamefly account. I think I'm paying 18 a month for being able to rent one game at a time.

so is there any real campaign type mode to the game with some sort of story (kinda like Age of Empires stuff) or was the demo basically what the entire game was, mini maps vs CPU or PC? I've always been more interested in this type of game for the stories more than anything; its easier than having to read a history book

A campaign or something would have been cool, but alas, it's not much more than beat up the other guy, over and over. There are a few scenarios built in which seem interesting. I haven't had the time to play any of them yet. I'm hoping they will have some good DLC in the future too...

Man I'm pumped about that colonization article.

That game was so fucking awesome. Nothing more fun than fucking up the French or burning indian villages to the ground.

I'm just gonna sell this on eBay and get a copy of Civ4 for my laptop.
