After reading through those two posts, I gotta say I'm incredibly impressed at your guys' effort in that fight. A lot of people refer to this showdown as a failure due to the lack of lootpool, but I still think you accomplished something downright incredible.
In short, /salute
that LJ was an epic read
the news on PW has made it overseas to korean gaming sites, this is becoming some epic stuff hopefully something will be done lol
lol im not sure about that heh
media has a huge impact on gaming in asia, moreso than the western scene. if this stuff hits TV and major portal sites (it already has, right? just gotta wait for it to come on japan), i truly believe it'll have some effect. whether it be for good or bad i don't know... but let's hope for the best.
and oh, you can bet some of us are going to lay off lineage for a few weeks to play FFXI and go for PW lol i'm tempted to reactivate my ffxi account just to check some new stuff out.
there was a legendary L2 guild fight about a year ago, one tyrannical guild vs ~20 other guilds' alliance over the castle raid for like 3 months, *some players played for a week straight* so... let's wait and see!
Thanks Ruke. Was a good read and even better to see some solid and informed info on the subject.
From reading through it, I just cannot see at all how this fight can do any differently at all. Everything is just far too systematic, and each form attempts to present a different challenge. The theme of this fight is a shape-shifter, and everything PW does follows that.
Tip of the hat to SE for trying to do something different, but a gigantic wag of the finger for making the fight so damned long. Seriously are that many forms needed? Take one form from each group, maybe nerf the HP slightly on just the lamps (so we don't have a major adjustment), and you have a long, yet manageable fight. The fight will still be challenging and only slightly longer than a full dynamis run.
Why SE feels they need to push the envelope as far as the time it takes in a fight is beyond me.
Don't mind the forms but they should be weaker than they are for such a marathon fight.
Pretty amazing read, really.
I do find it really strange that they made the PW forms so much stronger than their HNM counterparts. I mean, did they intentionally decide that khimaira was so easy that they needed to add lamps, double HP, and powered up TP attacks as well...and do that for 19 other HNMs that you have to fight all in a row?
Really SE?
Ugh, you really get a feel for how incredibly depressing that had to be at the end...I'd have probably broken my keyboard in half and promptly turned off my PC. Very nice entry with great explinations as well, props to all.
Off the wall idea... But I seem to recall that the 'forms' fought differed between the attempts, almost like some were skipped. Perhaps having a Soul Plate of the various forms (I know it wouldnt include the generals... Unless can you take their pictures while they are charmed in an undead invasion?) in the inventory of the pop trader (or possibly in alliance) and when PW does the morph + hellsnap its really just wasting time while the system checks what form it can go to next.
*edit* A friend tried to snap some photos of the generals during an undead seige and she couldnt get a pic of a charmed general.
ZNM system is entirely based on capturing souls, trading those in for points to get items that summon monsters. Collecting pieces of those monsters along with trading in more souls to an NPC. Eventually, the NPC that you have been giving pieces of monsters and souls to gives you an item to summon a monster that has a multitude of forms(souls)... pretty elegant really. Conclusion? Final form is actually Sanraku?
The only thing attempted, to my knowledge from reading these threads, regarding tricks to bypass forms have been using titles and taking pictures during the battles. This hardly exhausts the several ways in which soulplates and soultrappers can be used both before and during the battle.
edit: Did anyone use the dat switch that gave numbers to all the lamps? Was anyone able to see how those numbers were used as PW transitioned forms?
We know that during an attempt a form was somehow skipped. I'm not sure why this has been chalked up as random and impossible to replicate instead of being poured over for any possible difference in tactic.
so... use a soultrapper to make him appear in his true form?
Really I think it's only supposed to use one random mob from each section of mobs, 1 chariot, 1 besieged general, 1 Khim/Cerb/etc then pop on the last form but it's glitched and is popping them all or some shit. If not this is how it should be, and maybe nerf last form if it's gonna rape people with Astral Flow.
Don't forget that it's probably going to Astral Flow Scorched Earth at 75%, 50%, and 25%, unless he just arbitrarily does it at 75%, or randomly at some % HP.
So does the non-ffxi community still care about this topic? Same for us as well lol.
