Restricting Access to PlayOnline from Certain Access Sources

I have friends from Kuwait and UAE that are legitimate players. Two still play on Bismarck thankfully and another just moved to Midgard.

If SE did something as f**ked up as ban an entire country because a select group of individuals decided to pursue RMT-related activities (buy/sell characters, buy/sell Gil) or use third party tools (bot a King HNM), then I would be pretty angered about that.

There are legitimate players in every country. I have friends in the game from England, France, Spain, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Kuwait and the UAE. It makes the world feel a little smaller even though there are language barriers and time zone differences. Luckily I can speak a good amount of French and Japanese.

However, I wouldn't want an entire country IP banned and see my friends disappear because of some fools in a Linkshell decide to violate the ToS with reckless abandonment. (Though I won't name the two Linkshells on Bismarck I am referring to, as it's already known by several legitimate NA LSes.)

Apparently someone on KI (Post #3591661) just stated his entire country got blocked from PlayOnline. The country is the UAE (United Arab Emirates), can anyone verify this?

I'll have a look later today, if someone has not already had a crack at it.

The problem with saying "stop buying gil" is that gilbuyers don't give a shit how hard RMT make it for honest players to farm gil. They are just going to buy it outright and dodge the hurdle, and fuck-all to everyone else. There are three ways to effectively stop gilbuying:

1) Remove the ability to transfer gil between players.

This is horrible, and would have ugly repercussions on the game. It would stop gilbuying, however it makes the situation worse in another regard.

It wouldn't even stop gilbuying; they'd just buy the wind crystal in your bazaar for 1 million gil. Could even invite them into your MH in a base city to hide the transaction from any players that happen to be nearby. This would be yet another change that hurts honest people more than the targets.

I know most of you who have attended public schools have had the 'profiling is wrong' concept bashed into your heads, but it isn't. Let me put it this way: Currently at airports around the USA there are reports of elderly people getting full pat downs. Does that make any sense to any of you? It sure as hell doesn't make any sense to me. We know many many things about the people who would enjoy to fly airplanes into buildings. We know their general nationality, their gender, and their general appearance. So then, why is it a bad thing to just deal with those people? Is there any data out there that says grandma is gonna hijack an airplane? No. Yet, because we have to be politically correct, grandpa gets the latex glove treatment.

The same concept applies here. The vast majority of gilsellers come from China. Wasting time trying to deal with everyone else is a waste of resources and effort. Use some profiling, deal with it, and if someone gets hosed, well... sucks to be them. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

My previous post wasn't some smug form of pageantry, I was merely supporting Khamsin's opinion "Then they need to start, again." with an example.

I did not use a 3rd party program* on MY account. But it would seem that a second account which did in fact have a 3rd party application in use for fishing purposes did get clipped.

My main account evidently got clipped together with it, the only common link being the credit card. Reread my previous post for purpose, apply foot to mouth.

*- windower IS a 3rd party application, no need to point that out, I'm well aware.
