I have friends who play from China and they are currently online so this is not the case (even though it was unlikely to begin with)

We have gotten to the point though where Gangrene has infected the entire leg, and the only logical way to stop the spread is to cut the entire ****ing leg off.
China isn't the only area where there are RMT. Also, your philosophy sounds rather overly exaggerated. That sounds like if the terrorists we often see are Arab, does that mean we need to kill every one and put them all in camps in the USA? Or hell, even deportation? Racist much?

If most of the RMT and account hacking activity is from or around China, the problem I see is that about a third of my LS mates in Dynamis are from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. Come Saturday morning and I don't see some of my LS mates on, I'm going to get pretty ticked off.

Not everyone from China is an RMT player or someone that participates in gaining unauthorized access to someone's account. Lika Ashira said, this is more of a preventive feature than anything else. How SE implements this or what method they use whether subnet IP blocking or IP range of similar addresses, there are still ways around it like proxies. A proxy server doesn't even have to reside inside China and can be in Europe or even the US, and they carry a wholly different set of IP numbers.

These are more like Salem Witch tactics, but hopefully it works for those that are truly behind RMT activity and account hackings. SE should spend their man hours elsewhere and implement better security features within PlayOnline software itself and work on better securing an account.

Which is why I said that right above...but ok, selective reading ftw I guess.

So how long before SE catches on to Blizzards way of giving players a way to protect their accounts (for a small fee)?

That is genius, but i couldnt see them spending the time/money to do it on a game thats already 6 years old. Maybe next huge mmo they release it would be an option as soon as they put servers into production, but FFXI is too far into its lifespan for SE to concern themselves with a huge thing like that (In my opinion anyway)

Ban China, the RMTs (mostly) are there.
lol @ everyone finding out home-grown RMT is much bigger than you think.

Ban the buyers; without them there is no market. And ban every single account for sale (lock really, since some are probably ppl that got jacked and are trying to get their acocunt back).

And require confirmation of the account info that can't be changed when someone is trying to change billing info (also they need to hide the unchangeable info so said changer can't see it before trying to make the change). And ffs do something about world shifting security...

My guess would be an exploit of redirecting from those sites to playonline in an attempt to gain your password/ID by logging into friend's list plus. It wouldn't be that hard really to do it. And if they are running it from within their own window, then it is their IP, not yours.

Yeah, I'm getting it too, I'm trying to figure what it is.

Okay, wierd. I just went in and hit edit on his post, didn't actually change anything, but when I saved it the table was fine again.

EDIT: OK...when I refreshed it broke again....

Interesting. Could SE have been any more vague? Seriously, if they're going to make an announcement like that, why bother making it in the first place?

You know, if roughly 90% of Arabs that we came into contact with in this country were terrorists, it wouldn't be such an unpopular proposition to keep all 100% of them from setting foot in an airport/stadium/embassy/whatever. Your analogy fails both because of the scope of the Chinese RMT problem and because denying someone access to an MMO is a good deal different from denying them life or freedom.

The chinese, even non-RMT ones that some of us may have as friends in our own LSs, aren't supposed to be playing, anyways. So if people were following the rules, nobody would be hurt by this action.

Except they wouldn't be spending money on it, they'd be making money on it. That's why blizzard offered it for a fee, rather than making it a free additional feature.

Is it really feasible for goldfarms to redirect that many instances of ffxi through proxies?
