I think some of Syler's powers are there to be understood by the audience, not shown. As Tyche says, he knew he was going to kill him, he either could have deduced it with his power of understanding, or he could have just heard him. He was looking directly at them, it's likely he could have used both, and noticed that he clearly wasn't going to do it by listening in, hence why he didn't do something to protect himself.

The point is, they don't show you all these tricks because, most likely, they add to the shooting time of each episode. And sometimes the cost (what, you think CGI is free? Pfft.).

edit: rofl at "nerf"ing Peter. You guys are too precious.

Haha, aw shit. Sorry. I swear I won't belabour this point (I'm wwell aware it's petty). I just have this inescapable urge to explain myself properly (or make a futile attempt to..)

    Anyhoo.

Once he removed the regeneration, his cells were allowed to die because there was nothing keeping them from destroying themselves. The only plothole is that bone takes an extremely long time to break down and his bone wouldn't have just turned to ash... but then again it wouldn't have looked as cool.
The bolded part is where the conflict (in my eyes) occurs. Since Adam 'stayed' at 30yrs' old, his cells don't reach that certain age. If they did reach that age, they would also be affecting his appearance, which they don't. That's my point.

Again, sorry for perpetuating a conversation point I presume no one else cares about. (*^^)

I promise I'll never post on the Adam topic again!

Adam's death made NO sense to the plot. Especially if you consider that after Arthur stole Peter's powers, he would have had the power to regenerate... so why kill Adam?
Adam knew too much. In addition to being around for 4 centuries, recall that he was one of the founding fathers of the Company, and that it was Adam that originally conceived of the virus to wipe out humanity in Season 2. If I recall, Adam was instrumental in the virus's creation. It's entirely possible that with the help of others, he could do it again, interfering with Arthur's plans.

Consider also at the beginning of the series, after learning Nathan's funding from Linderman, we learn from Peter that Arthur, at the time on his death bed, had spent years trying to put Linderman behind bars. This means Arthur and Linderman had been at odds for a long time. We later learn (in Season 2), that Linderman was a sympathizer to Adam's cause. This could suggest that, because Linderman sympathized with Adam, Arthur was, by default, at odds with Adam as well. So, even assuming Adam had no large role to play, Arthur would still consider him an enemy to be taken care of.

The fact that he had regenerative abilities would have been a nice bonus. "Two birds with one stone," as they say.

Well that makes sense. What doesn't make sense is how he knew Adam was where he was, at the time that he was.

How did he know where Matt Parkman was, just as he was there? He couldn't have known his son would return from four years in the future and teleport one of his targets to Africa, could he?

It's entirely possible he didn't know where any of his targets were, else he wouldn't have employed people like Daphne to search after them. It may have been mere happenstance that Hiro revived Adam at just the right time.

On the other hand, we saw him enter Angela Petrelli's mind an shut her down from long distance. It's entirely possible that his psychic abilities are more vast than we know. His powers may include varying degrees of psychokinesis(allowing him to paralyze Angela), as well as remote viewing(allowing him to know his targets' locations).

If not that, he may have a limited for of precognition, allowing him to know ahead of time which players will be in the game, and from these visions he can pick and choose the targets most convenient to him, because he'll know ahead of time who's incarcerated/free, who's alive/dead, who's powerful/powerless.

Hm.. I'll reserve judgment on this one until I see more.

    Upcoming spoilers:

    Spoiler: show

    1. Peter and Sylar will not join Arthur, they will both protect Angela together. Nathan on the other hand...
    2. Daphne was originally slated to die by the end of the volume. Her future is up in the air.
    3. Elle and Claire will be at Pinehearst next week. Peter's thrown off of a roof.

I don't know that Nathan will be so easily led. I doubt it'll escape him that his father had as much a hand in engineering his powers as his mother did, and wait 'til he finds out the real reason Linderman's been in his head.

I think all three Petrelli boys will be against their father, though Nathan will need to be shown the light before long.

I hope Matt manages to save Daphne, he could use a little good fortune. Though personally, I'd hoped he'd hook up with that cute FBI chick from season 1.

Guys, I'm going to stop watching this show, I just realized that telekinesis AND flying both break newton's third law. Now it's not enjoyable at all.

    Oh man, this is terrible.

There's a bit of a difference with suspension of imagination and the suspension of logic. If I have to explain that difference to you, you clearly don't get the point.

I can put aside my beliefs for a second to imagine that a guy can fly at supersonic speeds or push objects with his mind or create black holes and close them at will.

I can't suspend logic that tells me that a poorly written scene is a poorly written scene, or that a crappy plot is crappy.

So on that token, I can accept that Arthur Petrelli can steal powers. I can't accept that the writers make characters like Peter or Hiro so stupid after 3 seasons and build up characters who have no worth in the overall story.

So, yes, it's easier to believe that a guy can walk through walls than it is to believe that writers are so lazy that they'll bring back a character from the shadows only to have them die pointlessly (such as DL and Adam). It would be like saying "A hero who can disappear from sight will make his return next week to help Peter!" and then the next episode, Claude appears for 3 seconds, says "Peter I can help you" then is shot by HRG and Sylar takes his power.

What's the point? Just like season 1. What was the point of Sylar killing Ted and taking his power when he could see into the future and knew Peter was going to blow up? BAD. WRITING.

Please. Quit excusing lazy shotty work and trying to deflect it into whining little babies who can't believe plausible stories when the stories are flawed. You wouldn't want me telling you the story of Jesus performing miracle after miracle only to watch him come back from the dead and say "Oh hey I've come to save humanity" then he trips over a fucking twig and breaks his neck?

    It's slapstick.

Hey, at least he doesn't have the hunger anymore.
If Peter doesnt get his powers back during the Villians Ch I will refuse to watch Heroes anymore. All I want is to watch Peter go on a rampage and show how unstopable he is... and all they do is gimp him left and right for having such awsome powers. Nerf?

Before he was 'stoping' time, which didn't work on her because he's really just slowing down time.

This time he just went back in time, and came back to the same point. Nothing to suggest that she would notice this since she wasn't in speed mode when he did it.

Like someone else suggested earlier, if he did this while she was not in speed mode its possible that she would be frozen. We'll just have to wait and see.

    lol. Nerf.

Peter's power was majorly problematic. They had to give him many pounds of stupid and many tons of angst to make it so that it makes some sort of sense that he doesn't just overpower everyone. I mean, seriously, why didn't he read people's minds in that room with his dad, realize what was going on, and just blow them all up? He could have done that. Or why didn't he take the time to do some precog stuff and avoid it all together? Why didn't he notice that knox and flint were there and do anything?

Because he had to be functionally retarded (or tied up in other ways) to make it so that his will wasn't constantly imposed. Antagonists with that kind of massive power are different because it's not as frustrating when they don't use their powers right. You hope they trip up and don't succeed. When peter tripped up, it was just an "oh COME on" moment.

Hiro is kind of similar, they have to keep his emotional shackles and fear of changing too much on or he can just go and kill baby sylar or whateve r.

My newton's third law comment was referring to people trying to rationalize Adam dying when he lost his power and saying it didn't make sense.

Hopefully Arthur succumbs to the hunger and cuts his own fucking head off so that we're not subjected to bullshit retcons and nerfs anymore.
Sylar goes to Pineheart to rescue Peter and bring him back to momma

Also that would stop them from having to make him into a retard and use that as an excuse as to why he doesn't do this and that with his power.
Like somebody else said, Peter being powerless atm is how he gets his scar (future version) because once he gets his powers back the regenerative ability doesn't work retro-actively... prolly just heals up the scar the way it is. Just kinda curious how he does get his powers back

Wasn't Adam Monroe in one of Angela's dreams when the future Peter changed the timeline? Unless the writers totally ignored that as well.

I think I was the only person to mention that. And at no point did I QQ about how I'll stop watching the show because it makes no sense, as your comment seem to be implying. Quite the opposite.

    So nerr-nerr.

The general point you make is quite valid. There's been no shortage of people who carry on watching, even though they know it pisses them off, then whine about it, then watch the next episode and, of course, whine some more.

I, personally, rather enjoy watching Heroes and will continue to do so. And I'll off-handishly make o.O faces at the various troublesome bits as they continue to pop up and chat about them (probably not on this board in future though, as some seem get to strangely offended). Talking about the o.O bits is fun.

Heroes is not a show that should be taken too seriously -- and that applies just as much to those people vehemently defending the comic-book sanctity of the show as it is does to those people angrily picking every episode apart, scene by scene.

    Or something!

Axolotls know why Adam stayed young through 800 years of regeneration. Lab axolotls, when having their regeneration ability removed, also crumble into ash!

I'm just going to say that in a site posted earlier (right around the time that people were posting spoiler sites) the writers stated that sylar doesn't have any of the abilities he had gotten before he got stabbed by hiro and then injected himself.

When he injected himself, all he got back was his original power and telekinesis.

Therefore, he wouldn't have hearing, melting, etc.

That's an interesting theory that I want to give credence to, but that wouldn't explain why he would have telekinesis, as that wasn't his power to begin with. So by that theory, he would only currently have his innate power of brain dissection, regeneration (Claire), and Sound Explosions (the guy whose body Peter was trapped in).

    Only3Penguins asked:

“If Sylar was starting with a clean slate (save for telekinesis) at the start of Vol. 3, how does he suddenly have Isaac's and Ted's abilities again four years in the future?”

Uhhhm, not so suddenly, four years in the future — that’s four years of power gatherin’ — now the question you’ve gotta ask yourself is how did Sylar get those powers? Did he kill the fourth Penguin?
