Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander, who (were one to judge from the season-two "Heroes" DVD set) appeared to be Tim Kring's chief lieutenants in the "Heroes" writer's room, have left the show.

From Variety:

Both scribe-producers had been with the show since its first season and were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/exec producer Tim Kring.

Loeb has known Kring since the pair worked together on the screenplay for 1987's "Teen Wolf Too." A comic book writer ("Hulk: Grey," "Spider-Man: Blue," "Daredevil: Yellow") since 1991, Loeb wrote his first teleplay for "Smallville" in 2002 and spent half a season at "Lost" before Kring brought him aboard "Heroes."

Loeb scripted the second-season finale, "Powerless."

Alexander wrote on all five seasons of "Alias" and worked as executive consultant and co-executive producer on the first season of "Lost" before joining "Heroes."

Alexander scripted last week's episode, "Eris Quod Sum."

Jeph Loeb leaving is a good thing... Jesse Alexander, not so much. Doesn't seem good for the remainder of the season. Eris Quod Sum was a pretty good episode.

But as a writer haven't they already put a lot of their work into this season (not including the directing parts). I thought by now most if not all of the script would be written and the episodes shot.

There's no way most of the episodes have been shot. The writer's strike started this week last year, and most programs with standard 22-26 episode seasons got what, about 12-15 before they ran out?

I think that might depend on if they're splitting the season, I think that's what they were planning last year (half the season pre-December, half after new years). If they're going straight through I'd imagine a good chunk of stuff is done already.

Well depends what season of Lost Loeb was working on.. could be better.

Their problem is they seemed to make the characters for the story they wanted to tell in season one, without seeing the future possibilities of the characters. They need to just scrap most of the cast, leaving in a few of the favorites and a few of the most narratively useful (Linderturtle) and make new ones.

If getting rid of Loeb and whatshisface does that, then so be it.

I just remembered about this, but its some movie whose trailer was playing right before Zach and Miri... seems like the most epic rip off of Heroes ever. Random people with telekinesis, mind reading/control, clairvoyance, up against a secretive company that wants to capture them for their own ends.

People getting strange powers and an antagonist organization wanting to capture them doesn't seem unique enough for this movie to be called a "Heroes" ripoff. I'm sure this is the billionth time a story of this nature has been written.

The show has gotten horrible reviews this year and lots of writers are saying teh show is doomed, ect ect... but it's lowest rated episode was something around 8+ mill... that's not bad. I agree they really need to fix some stuff around, maybe they will do what Lost did... create and end date for the show... and one giant story that will eventually end. This will allow em to do shorter arc's while working towards and end... so it won't feel like they are dragging stuff along just for the hell of it.

Lost was suposed to last 6 years right from the start. They had a story ready, and a few alternate ending in case the show doesn't last.

I think it's too late for Heroes to do this. Most of the fans they lost won't come back. You can only secure the one who are still watching, but if 8m is true, it's pretty low for this kind of show.

They didn't reach the agreement for the 6 seasons until midway into season 3 but I agree Heroes can't do anything of this sort. Mainly cause of plot but yeah too many voters have been pissed off. Now that they've fired 2 writers, they should just wrap up Villains, and hopefully find a new direction to go with Fugitives.

They didn't reach an agreement until 3rd season, but if you read old interview, you will hear the same thing from the team. They had a story planned, and they sticked to it.
