Let's just go back to the basis. The source of their power come from DNA evolution according to Suresh, and a fucking eclipse take them away.

Why aren't they losing them at night, or indoor?

Could be that eclipses somehow have a psychological effect on us. But that doesn't work because people who don't see the eclipse because they were sleep or something would be unaffected. But then again, if an entire planet can see a total eclipse at the same time two years in a row, I don't see why people can't see eclipses in their sleep lol

Honestly, I don't like the idea of an eclipse being tied to their power because that makes it seem more supernatural than science fiction, unless they can come up with a pseudo-science reason that an eclipse affects everyone's DNA (or adrenal glands. I think Suresh said their power is connected to that).

I would rather deal with supernatural explanation than poorly written science fiction. One is bound to end in a trainwreck, while the other force you to accept the universe the way it is.

The eclipse on its own is fine, but it's a terrible plot twist in the context they gave us.

Of course, but it's a lot harder to stay coherent when there is no supernatural laws established. When you define something supernatural (ie: magic, spiritual force, completely differents physics), you simply have to stay coherant with the laws you defined, because they overwrite everything the reader know about the real world.

Yeah, the one where he asked if it was a dream or what. Although now that I think about it, it could be spirit-walking like Usutu and Hiro, but it still doesn't make sense with his interaction with Charles

As long the show give us scientific explanations instead of supernatural explanations, I don't think we can consider it supernatural. I'm perfectly fine with "magical" explanations, but they need to explain the nature of their power at least.

And even if there was something supernatural, they need to define some sort of structures. After 3 seasons, we have no ideas how their power works, and they never attempted to give us an explanation. Considering it's the main theme of the show, they are doing a pretty poor job at giving us answers.

I always thought that he saw Charles based off of Charles's power, since we never find out what it was, so he implanted it in Peter's mind or something.

Since tides are affected by gravitational pull, maybe its some BS about stuff in their blood polarizing in line with the stronger tidal pull from the sun being in line with the moon. But then you'd expect similar weird things to happen when all the planets are in alignment, too, which I'm sure happens once a month or two in the Heroes universe.

Yeah, I went through the same thought process as you did. I went "Tides, gravity, etc...but then again, if this was the case it would happen more often than only during an eclipse. It could happen on new moons or other situations and at some point somewhere in the world someone would be under a very similar influence"

Do you lose your power when you suffer from blood pressure? Stand upside down? This kind of condition seem awfully unstable. But meh, at this point, i don't think I can accept any explanations unless it explains everything they went through now.

It's not a true eclipse, it's actually a giant UFO alien craft covering the sun. The gamma radiation emitted from the craft while it's covering the sun turns off their powers.
