I got a new router this week (DIR-100) and keep having problems connecting to FFXI. My old router was a D-Link 604 i think and never had any problems with FFXI and never had to open any ports for FFXI either but this one seems to be different.
At first i was able to login just fine but as soon as i tried to change zones my screen was stuck at "Loading data...". After that i wasnt able to log back on at all (main, mule or friends acc). So i went into firewall config and opened all the ports suggested at the pol site.
TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
UDP 50000 - 65535
Applied changes, rebooted router/pc and still same problems.
Activated the "gaming mode", reboot etc and then it worked. Because it says "zomg only activate gaming mode if your gaming" in the router help i made a quick google search and opened the ports the way suggested at portforward.com (i entered the firewall rules myself at first and it looked almost the same).
At this point i didnt reboot my router and only applied the changes because i was ingame playing. Not sure if it makes any difference but i know my old one used to reboot after every port change.
Today when i tried to logon i kept getting a time out message (POL-3001) right after "Loading data...". Figured it only worked the day before because i didnt reboot my router so i activated gaming mode again but this time i couldnt log on. Enabled DMZ/rebooted router/disconnected inet but still no go.
After rebooting router again and my pc too this time it worked suddenly....
Pretty sure its a router problem because its the only thing that changed but might be something else.
Possible related software:
DIR-100 Firmware v1.12DE
Vista Business 32-bit updated
Comodo Firewall Pro
NOD32 Antivir
Any ideas how to setup my router/pc to make it work properly =(?
