In FF7 - everything was there.
But those might've been for storyline purposes. I'd imagine if you found a way to unofficially do so, you could go to any place on any disc.

Wow, this news makes me happy. I wanted to get XIII but I knew long ago that I wasn't gonna buy a PS3 just for the game and probably wouldn't ever play it more so because all my friends had 360, which is why I got mine: to play online with them.

Anywhoot, I just watched the whole conference I did not see anything relating to it "hinting" at having any further features than the PS3 version.

    Did I miss something?

    Copy/Pasted from my thread:

Edit: Well it sounds like M$ just uppercutted Sony right in the taint. Wonder if this'll start a multiplatform trend with SE. Wouldn't be too surprised as of now, all four (am I missing one?) of their big titles are coming out to both PS3 and 360:

    FFXIII
    Last Remnant
    Infinite Undiscovery
Star Ocean 4 (is this still 360 exclusive?)

Was hoping for a Rapture announcement, tis a shame. Pretty stoked for FFXIII none the less. From what I just viewed of the conference there was nothing mentioned of there being any new or exclusive content for the 360...

    Semi-off topic:

How many of you, whom obviously play FFXI, got into FFXI because of your love/hate for the FF franchise?
Infinite Undiscovery is a 360 exclusive as I said in the E3 thread and a couple more have said, I really dont understand why people are bitching about the possibility of FF13 being on multiple disks on the 360, but I bet u werent bitchin when on previous consoles almost all RPG's had 2-4 disks, I just find it comical that people use disk number as a focal point. Also they have said the game is going to be exactly the same, just because PS3 version is going to be on BLu ray doesnt mean its going to better, SE has said its going to be the same.

Well, considering the Halo 3 Limited Edition and Lost Odyssey multiple disc fiascos, I can easily understand why people would be bothered by it.

In FF9, i think there were roots all over the place, and bubbles preventing you from going in certain areas.

I could be getting confused with FF8 though.

but i understand they have to worry about install base.

in any case, BluRay > DVD for sure.. so the PS3 version will be superior. Crystal tools works for both platforms so I think any rendering differences will be minimized even tho the Ps3 is superior..

FFXIII might probably come on 4 to 5 DVDs or something, requiring an installation to run smoothly.. otherwise.. can u imagine....
Run from Cocoon area 1 to Cocoon area 2 : Please insert Disc 3
Run back because you forgot something in that other area: Please insert Disc 4

haha.. reminds me of that old Monkey Island joke
Legend of the Dragoon was this. Wanna go back to old areas?! Please insert Disc 1....

What happened with Halo 3 and LO? I prefer playing on my PC and my 360 only gets used for Culdcept, so I don't keep up on stuff like that. It interests me as I do plan on grabbing FFXIII now that it's going to be multi-platform.

Then I'd wonder, will it be a matter of the 360 version asking you to swap discs, while the PS3 version installs a different set of data (a la MGS4)...

I dunno 'bout you, but the time it takes me to swap a disc is a lot less than it took for MGS4 to swap a few hundred megs or whatever of install data.

The mid-tier Halo 3 release, called the "Limited Edition" (as opposed to the normal and the "Legendary" editions) came with a second disc of extra content, as many limited editions do. Unfortunately, they decided to use a "special" case for their "special" game, which didn't properly restrain the discs. There were thousands, if not millions of scratched discs. I personally went through 5 different Limited Editions at the local Wal-Mart, and in the best case only 1 of the discs was scratched little enough to actually be read. Naturally, it was the bonus content disc, rather than the game disc.

As for Lost Odyssey, the Japanese version got a nice special box to account for the fact that the game is 4 discs long. The US version though, came in a normal game case, with 3 of the discs smashed onto the spindle, and the fourth in one of those paper disc envelopes and tucked in with the manual.

I didn't read the E3 thread, nor your posts. And though I'm sure you weren't directly referring to me by "you" you did quote my entire post then went on some tangant about people complaining about multiple discs.

Personally I can give a flying fuck how many discs it's come on as I'll be picking up the 360 version no matter, and honestly I doubt anyone in this entire thread truly cares how many discs it comes on. Was just something people were pointing out.

It's called combining 2 posts into one, addressing 2 issues, anyway, if you read a few of the threads in General, like console wars, here and E3, all the PS fanboy's are using the whole multiple disc point to attempt to justify the reasoning behind why 360 shouldnt get it, but instead its consisting bitching and complaining and its annoying.

Fuckin fanboy's need to figure it out, its a new gen, many more old exclusives from last gen, their next instalments are being made multi platform, why? To make money, they dont develop games just for fun, and you cant cont a company if you dont make the money to support it.

People need to stop fucking crying and be happy they actualy had a decent new trailer for the gd game.

You can't really expect differences in quality in most video games especially not something as huge as FF13 because it'd be developing twice as much as you want to in the first place. So in most cases, I'd assume they develop with the "weaker" system (360 without a doubt...) in mind so as to avoid any large issues that might arise. That isn't to say graphics might not be slightly better in the PS3 version due to various factors, but the game itself will essentially have to be the same sans a few pixels here and there.

I really hope it's more than one disc, what the hell is up with you people wanting everything on one disc, that isn't how good RPGs are played. Knowing Lost Odyssey had 4 discs got me so hyped just for nostalgia sake, I didn't care that it was probably due to multiple languages and superfluous cutscenes. I'd rather they take their time and put it on as many discs as they want. The last thing I want is shitty quality or long load times because some fat ass gamer doesn't want to walk to like 10 feet to fucking change a disc.

SE stated, in an interview with Gamespot, that FFXIII is being developed for PS3 and ported to XBOX 360 and they would "do their best" to keep the quality the same for 360 as PS3.

towns and dungeons would be blocked out.. which was probably their way of saying 'we cant fit it in 1 disc, so we're just gonna make an excuse so that you can't go there anymore'. All these blocked off access coincidentally happen after disc swaps too.

In any case, even though the core functional portions of the game are stored on each disc.. it will require more discs in total anyway. DVD is much cheaper than Bluray anyhow, so i guess cost isn't an issue..

Installation and then playing off the HD is probably the more sensible choice, and far more viable now with current generation video game consoles..

..as to the last post tho. FFXIII is definitely being developed specifically for the PS3. The XBox version will essentially be a near-identical port where possible

Wasn't Devil May Cry 4 like 70% done before they announced the 360 version? The game ended up being identical and I highly doubt SE is that far development wise with FF13.
