Those two statements are in conflict. If you need to "adjust to fit the needs of the pt", then obviously /WHM isn't going to be better exp per hour 100% of the time. The fun part is that, even if I accept the premise that /WHM will sometimes result in better exp/hour, I get to choose not to participate in merit parties that will be "boring as shit".
i thought cor/whm was great from 66-71 in the mire.
    fk amnesia.
/whm was very useful for silena too
I thought not exping in the mire ever on COR was pretty great.

tbh. COR/WAR is awesome in meripo.

My setup was COR/WAR(me), NIN/WAR, MNK/NIN, RDM/WHM, BRD/WHM, BRD/NIN @ bird camp. we never lost chain and got around 250 until someone had to afk . The damage provided by me helped in some way moreso than /WHM would have.

I've always been in favor of reducing a mob's HP to zero in big bites as the best way of enhancing a party, especially since I can buff them in the process regardless.

COR/WHM just doesn't do it very well. Our DD capacity isn't enhanced by WHM- IMHO, it's only when we're not DD-able (HNM's, etc.) that a support subjob is a good idea.

No need to argue until we're all blue in the face over it. As long as everyone can admit it's situational.

Personally, I think /whm /war /nin and /rng all have a place in merit parties, although I'm of the camp that think /whm is usually less beneficial than a /dd in most situations, but if the situation calls for it (i.e. lots of status ailments and only one mage in the party you should do /whm) just like /brd may be your best choice in a manaburn to maximize exp/hr.

A good COR should be willing to do whatever sub is needed to fit the situation to best compliment their party. That's the strength of our hybrid job, for sure.

I'd like to second what Velecic said on the page 3 of this thread.
Dancer sub is fantastic in merits pt and all the cors who use their job in merits should have their DNC sub leveled to try it at least once imo.
I personally use a melee/haste setup (i have full denali too but often use pbody) main handing joyeuse and sluging occasionnally when my tps allow it.
Drain samba II + Healing and Divine waltzes will make the life of your rdm a lot easier.
1brd/nin 1cor/dnc 1rdm/whm and 3dds is by far my favourite setup.

    No...it doesn't.

In the merit parties I attend (LS parties), if I bring a DD sub on my COR we kill too fast which breaks the chain because of no repops. In this case killing faster means less xp.

/WHM for me is always the better option although a DD sub is fun.

Side tip: You can still DD with /WHM.

If that's the case, then you could always have a 2nd BRD or WHM+RDM and use your DD sub instead of bringing another DD. Or replace that other DD with one of your poor LS PLDs or THFs that keep destroying their exp for you, since you should still be able to keep up the chains just fine. But yes, it's a good point that killing faster doesn't always mean more exp. I learned that way back on decos.

Side tip: You can still DD with /WHM.
You'll have to be gimpy at one or the other, or mediocre at both. DD gear and Joyeuse don't make for a good backup healer; /mage gear and Apollo's Staff make for a weak damage dealer. I could still try to DD in (HNM) situations where I'm COR/WHM, but outside of Quick Draw, I don't.

It doesn't really bother me if other people want to play /WHM in exp, since I probably won't ever be in a party with them anyway (although I'm puzzled when I see people who usually play as /WHM but think /DD is more fun). But if I want to play support+backup healer, I already have BRD. Square designed a job that excels as a support+DD, and I couldn't be happier.

Since a lot of the CORs came out of the woodwork to post in this thread, I'm just going to put this question here. With the increase in category 2 merits, where did you spend your additional merits? I'm one merit from finishing sword, after that I'm going to start pumping merits into my (sadly underused) COR.

For me, 5/5 Snake Eye is waaay too good to not do. I also have Fold unlocked and one merit into Loaded Deck, which all but guarantees a reset on Phantom Roll. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to put the remaining merits. Fold, while useful enough to have it unlocked, almost never gets used unless I'm seriously unlucky. The prospect of Loaded Deck having a higher chance of resetting abilities with a longer recast (such as Convert) is enticing, but most people don't even know an ability was reset unless they're using Recast (the Windower plugin). At the moment I'm considering putting 3 points into Winning Streak as an extra minute on each buff would be quite dandy. I don't have a problem maintaining a buff cycle with the five minutes I currently have, but having that extra bit of breathing room would give me more time to stab and blow shit up in merit parties.

So, what did you guys do?

Haven't done mine yet b/c I still have 1 MM to go then need to redo RDM group II's first, but 5 SE, 4 Fold, 1 LD all the way for me.

Haven't finished mine yet either, but my plan is 5/5 Snake Eye, 1 Fold, 1 Loaded Deck, and 3 Winning Streak.

Seriously to those people defending /whm in merit pts, go try /dnc. Think of it like this, to get mp back to heal you either stand around and wait for refresh to do its thing or rest. If you are using your tp full time to heal melee then you are at the very least DD with your joy toy. When you aren't needing the tp to heal you use it for damage. I tried /whm once and was totally leeching. You get an acc trait to boot along with nearly everything /whm offers along with instant cures.
