I'm kinda shocked people are still tossing PLDs out the window for this fight. I've been through 6-4 on my PLD myself about 20-ish times, and lost twice - first time due to lack of DD, second time due to a hilarious screwup. If you have a NIN available (as you do), I agree it's a good choice, but PLD are by no stretch of the imagination bad for this BCNM, unless they're completely talentless - in which case they don't deserve to have sea, anyway.
well I can borrow a Emp Pin, i have most of the other gear mentioned. i would probably have Sai x2 for Katana. ring wise I have Garrulous Ring for sure, and I know I would not want to use my Woodsmans Ring... im open to suggestion Here... for Ranged Probably take the HP+1%/VIT +1 Egg
so my setup would look like this if i get the epin from my friend
Head: Emperor Hairpin
Body: Scorpion Harness
Hands: Jaridah Bazubands
Legs: Ninja Hakama
Feet: Fuma Kyahan
Ring: Garrulous Ring / ?
Ear: Dodge Earring x2
Weapon: Sai x2
Ranged/ammo: Happy Egg (I think thats it)
Back: Night Cape? or High Breath Mantle? <--- HB for Enmity or Night for Eva?
Neck: Spirit Torque
awesome thanks for the input guys
do you think that a setup like the following would work?
NIN SMN WHM BRD DD DD?
I really hate to go without my smn friend should it come to me going on NIN
I agree and if anything you can sell the spares back when you are done because you are hard pressed to lose 6-4 with 6 CCBs.I've always been a firm believer that it's better to go with 6 CCB's and resell the unused, rather than risk bringing 3 and needing 4, then having to go buy another set.
RNG is also an awesome DD for 6-4, being able to stand out of range and all.
Wait, you want to spend 180k trying to beat a BC that's been nerfed already?
Wow. You don't lose xp, just try again and save the gil.
For the setup of
NIN SMN BRD WHM DD DD
for one of the DD slots do you think it better to have BLU or WAR?
A retarded war will wail on it, randomly mash his WS macro, and possibly randomly voke long enough to help an utsu recast.
A retarded blu will have macro swaps that equip his af, while he is already wearing his af, will spam head butt but won't land it half the time, and will run out of mp halfway through Omega.
Tough call, a really smart Blu would almost undoubtedly be better because of head butt being wtfpwn there, but a really smart War can tank mammets with a co-tank while the main tank superkites, and can help get shadows up while dumping a bunch of damage (hi2u raging rush in 60 cap being borked) to boot.
I'm curious, since my static has this fight coming in not TOO long. What is it that makes NIN such a preferential tank here? I'm not the best PLD in the game by a long shot, but I'd like to think of myself as fairly competent, I was able to co-tank Cerb, so I figure I can probably manage on this.
Our static's setup is PLD, BLU, WAR|DRG|SAM, WHM, SMN, BRD|WHM, appropriate subs leveled all around. From talking with sky/Dyna members who've done it, I'd say we've got a decent shot.
NIN is the best tank because Omega has an additional effect of stun on his melee attacks, and Ultima has an additional effect of paralyze.
It's a trade-off. With NIN you have slightly less hate control, so DDs (and mages, too, depending on their gear/job) run a bigger chance of pulling hate, but you don't need nearly as much mage attention. With a PLD tank you get better hate control, even with the stun/para effects, but of course take quite a beating and require more mage control. It depends entirely on the skill of the group as a whole. I've had excellent WHMs every time I've done it, which has helped me a ton. I would still be able to tank it with a shitty WHM, but tank it as well as a NIN would in the same situation? Eh.
Completely depends on how fast you can kill Omega and Ultima once they reched lower HP. My group deliberately started CCB usage early to prevent the barrage of TP moves. I am confident we could have handled using fewer pumps, but it was an issue of "These take awhile to farm, let's just do it correctly the first time."
If the group you are with is capable of cranking out very respectable spike damage twice in the fight, I can easily see a group not needing CCB pumps. If the mobs die before they can fire off their TP moves, the pumps are literally pointless.
