    Moving FFXI Client while formating

My laptop is in desperate need of a format, and i'd like to move the client to a portable HDD while formating, and trasfer it back after. However, having done this before i know i have to copy some of the registry as well.

Anyone know of a guide of how to do this with an EU client?

I don't bother with the registry. I copy my whole POL folder, then on my new machine I'll do a basic install of POL and FFXI, then paste my saved POL folder over the top and run a file check. It's not ideal, but it saves all the downloading.

well I don't believe it makes any user data / application data / local settings folders/files

so you should be able to just copy your c:\program files\PlayOnline folder (and all sub folders therein)

then Start > Run > Regedit

navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and right click on PlayOnline and you more than likely have a second one called PlayOnlineEU
right click on each one individually and select export then save those .reg files somewhere safe.

after your reformat and reinstall, double click the two registry files, and copy your playonline folder back to the EXACT same place it was installed to before.

anything more than this is unknown to me, I have not tried this just making an educated guess.

I would personally copy the folder and do a reinstall of the game then copy the files over top of that.

    Hope this helps

Thanks mate, helped me a lot. There was only one .reg file, the PlayOnlineEU one. I guess the PlayOnline one is the US one? i'll try it out, if not i'll just have to reinstall the whole game and do the file check. Thanks!

I did the install - copy - file check way the last time, but it took ages. figured if there is an easier way, it would be nice.

When I built my new machine I pretty much followed the same method as Shue did - installed the base game and expansions, then over-copied them with the updated files on my old HD. Gonna need to do this again before I install Ubuntu.. yayz!

If you install-copy-file check, all you need to install is POL/TetraMaster & Final Fantasy XI. You don't need to install ANY expansions, just copy your old POL folder over with the expansion content in it.
