Kaeko asked for some publicity for his latest LiveJournal post, and I figured pointing to the picture of the day would get him more traffic than putting the fact it's about another AV strategy in the title.

Yes, it is another AV strategy idea. I haven't really read it through completely myself, I've been fussing with trying to tidy up a website today. But he did rather explicitly ask me to ask people to read it, so here I am.

Diffusion Exuviation with most if not all of your party in range, I think is what you're looking for.

Kaeko, I've seen japanese translations of other portions of your blog. You wouldn't happen to have a translation of this as well? I'd like to give it a shot, but trying to explain this to half my LS using autotranslate and broken japanese is going to be difficult.

If all damage is dealt without AV switching targets off the BLU, AV will be looking to attack the BLU (which it cannot ever reach) 100% of the fight. AV tends to have a very particular set of actions it takes after using a 2hr. For instance, it always follows Meikyo Shisui with 3 uses of Explosive Impulse. While AV can 2hr while running (after the BLU), it cannot use something that requires a player target to execute (like Explosive Impulse) without first being in range of the player. Because this strategy involves AV never reaching its target, if the AI tells AV to execute Explosive Impulse, it MAY actually lock AV from doing anything else until that action is executed.

I don't really see the logic here. Once you begin the shadowbind/timed nuking he's going to change targets, is he not? Really I think it's going to come down to luck.

The holding strategy is definitely much more sound than the last suggestion. I don't know the actual practicality of it, but I can't see it being more or less practical than getting a mule to hymnus sac it.

The real issue is the kill strategy though. I don't think you are correct about your assessment of Benediction. The evidence you state about AV holding Explosive Impluse is not about it holding an ability, but rather it is about holding it's TP. It just needs a new target for it to use it's TP. That being said, I can't say for sure that it wouldn't work, but I believe it would be completely unique behavior for it to hold TP and thus block other actions. If there was some other evidence of AV holding a two-hour because it didn't have a reachable target, then I think you would have the evidence you need.

couple of points:
1.) AV links w/ other aerns, does he not? if so, you may want to test if you're going to have every aern in the zone tailing you. since they don't move at flee speed like AV, you may end up running from AV straight into a squadron of aern trying to eat your face off. easy to test though, by sleeping an aern at AV's pop and seeing if it will a.) follow you through the porter, and b.) if the adds will lose interest at a point.

2.) there are some other movement enhancing tools that may be very effective in buying you the speed you need to reach the updraft in a timely fashion w/o being forced to run straight thru UFOs, sharks, etc.

first, station a brd at the updraft. have them sing mazurka to the blu as they port in. since mazurka DOES stack w/ gear, this gives a near flee speed movement to the blu thru the duration of the run. use a mazurka insturment like a relic horn or the harlequin's horn to enhance duration and get them further on zoomspeed. remember, a brd won't generate any enmity by doing this as AV is a mile away at the updraft and not going to get any inkling of what you're doing. if you want, you can even have mazurka stations to sing to the blu as he runs by and keep his speed up. like that guy you always see on the side of a marathon racetrack w/ all the water cups.

second, sprinter's shoes. they too stack w/ gear (though not mazurka though mazurka doesn't overwrite them) and would permit you to have +25% running speed at all times providing you don't hit or get hit by anything, which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

third, as a last line of defense, wear a pair of caitif's socks. if something bad does aggro and hits you, there's a chance you'll get the flee boost and be able to hightail it out of there before whatever it is you've picked up eats you. since you're using w legs for this and not a + move pair of feet, you can get away w/ wearing these w/o any loss, even if the odds of them helping aren't very significant.

correct, and as i said, the odds of them helping are slim, but consider that the goal of them is not to be a defense against AV, but a defense against something aggroing like a UFO. 2 thwacks by a UFO could put you into the red w/o killing you and this would give you the ability to get away. even if it's only a 5% chance of being helpful, it still represents a chance in an otherwise impossible situation.

Aerns linking and losing claim on AV sound like valid concerns... Benediction is something we can't really predict before we try and see how the AI reacts. Rather than worry about Bene, let's think about whether the strategy is viable in the non-Bene case first and work from there.
