Also Idk classic music all that well, but the scene with Dr M in vietnam, was that the Valkyrie song? (from the side story at the end of Chapter 1)

Jackie Earle Hailey was absolutely phenominal. There are very few movies that make me know I will revisit them several times based soley on who well the characters are fleshed out (The Wrestler comes to mind), but Jackie Earle Hailey achieved this with perfection in Rorschach's character. I know I will be in a larger minority when I say this, but if Ledger can pick up an Oscar for his performance as the Joker, so see no reason Hailey shouldn't at least get a nomination ( and to be honest I personally thought Hailey was better).

    Rorschach was indeed damn perfect.

I will honestly say that I came into the movie fearing I would be disappointed (fuck you internet). I was glad to leave the theaters not disappointed, but rather ecstatic and filled with the decaying remnants of adrenaline.

    Spoiler: show
You don't under appreciate the movie for it's cuts until after the movie when you realize - hey, Zack forgot this! My only problem was Dr. Manhattan cutting straight to Mars. That whole Chapter completely sculpted his character for the reader. The Chapter injected all that information into you with Manhattan's time references. Unfortunately, it felt like Snyder tried to spread out that information slowly across most of the movie instead of directly at once.

You learn so much about him then, but it felt lacking in the movie. I can understand reasons to cut parts out (but when all is said and done, there were quite a few things I thought could have been cut from the movie), but the development of Manhattan as well as some key sub-characters relied on his monologues.

I also would have liked a little more conversation with Laurie and Dr.M when they were on Mars. That was one of my favorite Chapters when Manhattan was explaining how minuscule life really is. I have to say, it was ok and right to the point, though.

I was absolutely in love with Rorschach. It was perfect; the voice, the acting, the makeup and posture. He was a character everyone watching could fall in love with (and of course cry for), and the ironic part about it is that he is a vicious character that would fit the characteristics of a villain - a villain that tries so hard to destroy society and tear down justice - yet Rorschach is completely the opposite. Also, I'm REALLY glad that they kept his speech the same. It didn't sound altered at all to sound normal.

One last little nitpicking thing: Snyder's token signatures. I don't like it when he has to force these things when a scene could have done without it and still have the same emotions. I think you all would know what I'm talking about if you've seen his other movies. Yea it's great visually, but it feels like it's just copy/paste like someone mentioned with the sex scene.

Oh, and this was a lot more violent that I expected. I got quite the rush watching it. I pray to the fucking highest power that there is no sequel. Director's cut prz.

Aside from some of the cheesiness (which I think was added on purpose, like Nixon), I thought it was a great movie, and I liked how even though "The World's Smartest Man" revealed his plan only AFTER it had already performed most of it's carnage. Too many movies have the good guys cut the blue cord at :01 and save the world. This one has them getting to that cord way too late. Although it seems like a small accomplishment, most films can't do small things like portray realistic outcomes (ironic that I see it in a Comic Book movie), but killing all those people to avert world war really sounds like a plausible outcome in the real world, whereas lesser films would have stopped Ozymandias before the destruction could occur and the two nations would have, I dunno, [insert happy outcome here].

I agree that the Dr. M's fascination with time is extraordinarily cut in the movie and in the end, results in not understanding Manahattan and the things about him as well. The graphic novel where he goes into the series of events that eventually unfolds in him being locked in the chamber was brilliantly done and I was sad to see it glossed over in the movie. Veidt's backstory of admiring Alexander, giving away his money and making his European journey also, I think, been included because it's very revealing of the character.

That being said the only reason disappointment with this movie was Snyder's awful choice of music for most it. Either the songs were great or terribly in appropriate (Silk spectre and Nite Owl in the ship comes to mind)

Man, they cut Dr. M's "I'm staring at the picture."

"It's 3 seconds from now, the picture is at my feet."

"It's 20 years ago, the woman at the bar is smiling at me."

I loved that stuff, such an accurate view of time. T.T

It's a shame the cut as much from the Dr. Manhattan book as they did, I really enjoyed that one with all the time jumps.

Oh and Dylan's song opening the credits of the movie was brilliant; that was one of the few songs that few overwhelming appropriate to the matter in which it was used.

My brother is 20 btw. Ill give him the fact that it was already a long day in vegas and we had gotten up at 5am to go to class then we hit the strip for most of the day, drinking and gambling. A midnight movie was going to have to do a lot to keep his ass awake. He later told me he found it just rather dull until the end.

Like someone mentioned before, there are three longer cuts of the movie. I think the two longest ones go into more detail on the Dr. M/Mars scenes.

    Downsides
    *Nixons visual appearance
*Hollis' death getting cut(which also forced them to remove nite owl kicking ass in the bar)
*awkward sex scene and the removal of the awkward hilarious part of them playing music and serving coffee to the fire victims while hes on the roof steering
*Cut out the fat ass land lady and her son that reminds Rorschach of himself as a kid

The movie was definitely a hell of a lot better then i expected though and the montage in the beginning was really well done

Was it just me or was there a whole lot of penis in this film? Seriously.

Also , Leonard Cohens version of Hallelujah was is and always shall be horrific. Shoulda gone with the dead kids version.

Missed the kid reading the comic about the shipwreck and lashing bodies together into a raft and was dissapointed that they actually changed the plot mechanism of the destruction of NY but i feel they DID do a good job with it after all...

Fun fact. The tears for fears song "Everybody wants to rule the world" playing in the background when Veidt was meeting with the world economic leaders was released as a single. the B side was called "Pharaohs"

Rorshasch was amazing in this. I've only read the first 4 chapters and didn't yet like Rorshasch but based on the movie he was awesome. I'll finish off the chapters soon to see the gaps the film left. But overall I was very happy with the movie, I saw a lot of the parts that were changed, but the parts that were changed were mostly filled in with some way to get the information to you, just a little less emotion. I can't wait to finish the novel and find a director's cut version.

Oh thank god. I was afraid I was the only one... Just got back from the theater a few minutes ago. Having read the comic in it's entirety several months back, I was not at all disappointed with the adaptation. I did, however, laugh my ass off at

I didn't expect The Black Freighter (the comic inside the comic you were referring to) to be in the movie. I thought they would have shown the Newstand guy and the man reading the comic, but I guess all of that is saved for the longer edition on DVD (and I think the Black Freighter will be an additional bonus on the DVD and not included in the movie, I don't know).

The original plot mechanism was somewhat flawed:
    Spoiler: show
The whole world uniting together because only NY was destroyed seemed a little misleading. In the midst of a cold war, there was no common enemy, just an alien threat. I understood what Alan Moore thought, but I thought it was a stretch. The mechanism Snyder used made it so that the world would unite because everyone was at loss. Just my observations.

Also, funny tidbit of info there about the Pharaohs.

There were quite a lot of people at the end of the movie who hated

, because they thought he shouldn't have done what he did. I found it hilarious. People really have hard-ons for Hollywood superhero endings where the villain is stopped and the ending is bliss. Everyone joins hands in harmony because X-guy's evil plan was thwarted. It doesn't happen, and I was so glad when I read the book that it ended the way it did.

Something else I missed, I think the tachions thing wasn't explained enough. Obviously for readers, we understood, but for those that haven't read the book, the whole looking into the future/past with Dr. Manhattan was subtle and quick (earliest reference was in the Military Lab, then later on Mars). That's why I thought there should have been more reference to the way Dr. Manhattan perceives time (read: development, etc). Really want to see how Snyder put together his cut now.
