Name Change

Wondering when the last time someone did this without swapping servers for 3 months...

I remember long ago you had to delete the character, and then call with some random BS saying it was an accident, and in the meantime have a mule on some account with your old name, then when its restored you can change the name... But I'm wondering if it still works and what it entails.

I don't know if the character has had a name change before, last time I did this, years ago, it could only be done once... so if it can still only be done once, and my friend did this already, I guess I'd lose his account heh. Also, does it require CD keys or anything? I'd like to do this myself, but I could always ask him for more information. I'm pretty sure last time you needed to have the account under your CC and such, and know the name on it and then be like "oh my brother did it by accident" lol.

Just wondering if it's even worth doing. I don't feel like waiting 3 months, and if it's too much trouble or too risky then I'll just keep the name as it is.

yeah my mule had kinda offensive name, you can try GM'ing urself from another account or something, not sure will work though but will be interesting to see lol

I'm certain it still works, because restoring characters still happens. Just make sure the character that is 'stealing' your name is on another account. If you delete your character and make a mule on the same account, it will overwrite the spot your character was in and you won't be able to restore.

Correct, they won't restore a character if it's been restored before.

To restore a character you need the standard:

• POL ID
• Name
• Address
• Birthday
• CC #
• POL Registration Code

Don't think it matters if the CC and account name match, but I don't really know. I hate to point you at Allakhazam, but just check the Character Restoration guide there for more information.

I don't think it can be messed up, but SE cautions that the process isn't guaranteed. Nonetheless, I've never heard of a character not being restored if it was deleted within a short time of the restoration.

It's probably more about if you're cool with deleting a character. I'm sure some people would be emotional with the countdown when you delete a character, especially when there is no 100% guarantee to get it back. Of course, maybe you're not attached to it if it hasn't been yours forever.

But now that I think about it, seems like that wouldnt be the case cause plenty of ppl deactivate for a month or two and it seems harsh to give their name away after deactivation only. But it's worth a try.

This doesn't work. You won't lose your name, unless you delete your character, and no one else will be able to name themselves that.

Deactivating definitely won't do the trick. I don't see why deleting wouldn't though, although it's a little risky, as said.

Does anyone know where to find the number you actually need to call in order to actually do character restoration?

I've been meaning to do this for the longest time but I'm a sissy and afraid to delete my char ._.

Just call POL they will transfer you to the right department.

You don't need a second account to do it but you will need a second content ID since they would just delete whatever character is currently on the content ID linked to the character you want restored.

Thanks for the help so far guys, I found some additional information when looking it up.

About the deactivation part, it IS possible supposedly, but the character has to have been deactivated for 3months minimum... So basically, you have 2 safe ways to do it: Change servers or deactivate for 3 months, either way you have a 90day cooldown to get back either on your server or back on your character.

The name I have isn't bad, I do like it, but since I'm going to be the main one playing it, I was thinking I wanted to change it. Since I don't know if it's been done before, and I don't want to wait 3 months and pay extra money for it, I'll be keeping my name.

I don't want to risk deleting it since I'm committed to this character now, put some money and time on it already, and I wouldn't another account to play if I lost it. Since I don't want to start from lvl1 with no subs, no sky, sea, merits, etc, I'll just deal with the name not being mine. Again, thanks for the help, and someone had PM'd me as well, thank you for that. If anyone else has any questions on it, this thread has some good information (and actually comes up in search when you type "name change") and you can always PM me since now I'm kinda well versed in it (I've done it before, and it looks like the process hasn't changed over the passed 2 or so years)

Sorry to bump, since it's my own thread and a double post but:

I'm thinking of server transferring with a friend, and with this, there is an oppertunity to change my character name. I've never transferred before, in fact I just recently came back to the game so I'm not versed on it really at all. Didn't want to make a new thread about transferring considering its a name change question as well;

To change my name, another character has to exist with my name on the target server.

If I transfer, do both my characters instantly go there, is there any way I can make or rename a mule that I bring to my current characters name? Or will all the characters instantly be on that server and its too late?

Has anyone ever called a GM saying "I forgot one of my characters?" It'll be super easy for me to just transfer a mule there first, name it my name, then say I forgot a character to a GM and make them bring it over, but has anyone ever done this?

Final option is to just have my friend make a mule, but hes soooo slow.....

Edit: Ok I just made a mule on target server with my name, but it's on the same account... Will this affect the name change?

I think all characters you link to the transfer go there right after you complete the process in POL. Just delete your mule and create one with the now empty content ID that has your same characters name but put the server you will transfer to and then server transfer.

Edit: No, it will work like a charm. That is exactly how I changed names when I had moved to Midgard.
