    The whole player dungeon thing sounds nice and all but without an actual purpose and form of reward (which would not be anything that great anyway or people would purposely create easy dungeons to get the stuff) then SE might as well go back and work on Ballista, Garrison, Campaign, Kokba, Pankration and the shitty lootpools of monsters long past. (sup Vrtra, Jorm, Hydra and the gang)

    Good idea but in typical SE fashion they will leave out the rewards and the novelty will wear off within a month of launch.

    You guys know what's going to really happen with the dungeon thing, right? It's very typical SE type of shit:

    The Lowdown:

    You get to create your own dungeons, assign mobs, assign loot pools, awesome. In order to choose better loot, you have to defeat your own dungeons and get "dungeon points" (for lack of a better name for it) and here's the kicker:

    Shit that drops in dungeons can only be used in player-dungeon worlds.

    Now tell me that isn't SE for ya

    Rewards aside, there's no way a very functional dungeon creator will ever make it into the game. Knowing SE, it probably won't be implemented at all, but if it is, it will probably be something retarded like; pick an assault map, pick mob type(s), than there's your 'custom dungeon'.

    I dunno... I always felt that this is one thing that didn't need a reward to be successfull -- kinda like Legos™. "Hey guys, I built this duengeon, it's got a buncha black mandragoras guarding a nakid mithra and this huge room with stairs on the cieling and walls, check it out!" -or- "I recreated a scene from (insert movie here) in my dungeon, it rocks~!". Their are no rewards but it's a fun thing to do. Maybe this will be the new Nysul Isle and instead fo randomly generating a dungeon the servers might pick your dungeon next... oh wait... this is SE... NVM.

    Awesome to hear. I'm very interested to see what exactly they were talking about in the "Balhran's Agent"/Nyzul section of the interview and I'm dying to finally know more about the new af2 so I'm looking forward to the translations. Thanks again Elmer.

    Thats what alot of people said about Chocobo Raising/Racing and Pankration before they were released live and while both of these events have cultists who enjoy and love what they bring to FFXI, the majority is not touching this content and it is dissapointing in so oh so many ways.

    The way i see the dungeon maker happening is that you pick a map, you place multiple families of monsters in certain areas of the dungeon with limitations (like only say 2 wyrms per dungeon) and you assign perhaps some pre-made goals to win the dungeon like:

    -Defeat all Enemies
    -Survive for X minutes
    -Collect item A, B, C and defeat the boss monster

    I highly doubt that there will be advanced customization of these dungeons so pretty much SE would have to resort to some kinda of Dungeon Points like you stated that allows you to place things in your dungeon for completing others - ultimately worthwhile rewards cannot make the cut for this due to rampant abuse if it were so.

    At the best it'll be something like Fellowship points where playing with others allows you to use new tools in your own dungeon.

    I'm not quite sure I understand your comparison (hope that doesn't sound dense). What I was trying to say is that this is more like a sandbox, their is no reward, you do it to be creative. Like drawing. Chocobo Raising and (to a greater extent) Pankration are more of a challenge-type activity and arn't really creative-type activities, so of course you'd expect some sorta reward for it.

    I would think poeple would see this as more of a creative outlet then a challenge, and not expect a reward for it.

    Kinda like the Stage Builder in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

    I dunno, I guess we'll see what happens with it. I hope it's good. Building a custom dungeon to trap my LS mates in sounds kinda fun.

    You don't seem to understand that point is the mini-game novelty will eventually wear off as it has with those other two systems. Chocobo Raising, for example. One could say the whole tamagochi thing is entertaining enough without the reward, or the Pit's custimization and level of control should be all someone needs, but at the end of the day, people want to see a real return, which neither event provides. Yes, it would be engaging and enjoyable, but without a true reward, only a handful of people would bother with it after 6 months.

    Also, Stage Builder in SSBB is a poor comparison on the one hand and a poor role model on the other. -_- The reason it's a poor comparison is because the entire point of SSBB is to fight, there's really nothing else to do, so another stage doesn't really need to add anything else, like new items or more coins. Also, anyone who's played on a stage builder stage can tell you the whole thing is kinda weak. You can't pick spawn points and even worse, certain pieces (a lot of them) can't be edge-grabbed, so it ruins the flow of a stage.
