Parroting? Absolutely not. I've gone by such equipment choices since resistance tier information was made available, and it never fails me in practice. Even when competing against Black Mages with far better equipment options than I have(mine is really quick lackluster, if you've ever seen it), I rarely fail to surpass them in damage, without having to resort to over-nuking. And no, Cleophie(ouch, I can use names too?), I'm not referencing puddings. If you knew absolutely anything about me other than hearsay, you'd know full-well that I have Bard and Red Mage, and use Black Mage to accumulate merits once in a blue moon.

And lets try to maintain civility, yes? If you disagree, disagree, but the ad hominem retorts are tired. If you want to start something, I have a PM box.

So you are saying that with your standard (or gimp) gear, you are outdamaging with far better equipment than yours?

Is your character that special that you don't need good gear now? Or maybe your blm skill is that good?

You sound too cocky, got any parsers to prove what you are saying? If not then I will agree with Shuemue, nonsense.

Well, when I say lackluster, I mean AH. Aside from things like a Genie Weskit, everything that should be HQ, is HQ.

And I phrased it the way I did for a reason, they have better equipment -available- to them. If they didn't put on a Sorcerer's Petasos and expect anything and everything to crumble before them, they'd easily out-damage me. The fact that I didn't get resisted as often is the sole reason I ever outperformed them.

If you think I sound cocky, I don't know how to help you, other than to say its not my intention. Black Mage is a third job for me, and hardly something I'd write home to mom about. The this-or-that way I play the job isn't law, it just has yet to fail me in practice.

It's amusing that when challenged, you back down. This isn't KI, you're even less likely to have people think you're all that here.

i read through my posts again and realized i wasn't very clear. i'm not looking for data on puddings and city dynamis mobs. i should be able to discard all ele mag gear sans maybe the cape (if it ever drops *grumble grumble*) on them and not have issues w/ resist, especially with the unquantifiable boost the MAcc gives. i was curious if a.) it's possible to accurately nuke wyrms, kirin, etc. with the full set or if i'm wasting my time and should back down to a mix and match set. i'm also trying to figure out where the cutoff is between the two. xarc demons? sky gods? if i do have to fall back to my ele mag gearset, what's the cutoff at which i can't push the full set anymore?

btw, a comparison for us non-maat cap people with lives (in theory...hey don't judge me! ; the best pudding mix and match i can come up w/ for those slots using thunder4 is
    Head: Demon+1
    Body: Morg
    Hands: Zenith+1
    Legs: Morg
    Feet: yigit
    for a final tally of
    int:6+8+0+10+3=+27
    MAB: 0+5+6+0+2=+13

in contrast to a full morg set w/ +25 int and +15 MAB.

now that i think about it, those two sets should produce remarkably similar results, though the inclusion of +10 MAcc will likely lead to the latter being more consistent if you're not already capping (even if the cap is at 100%. not getting into that argument atm) accuracy.

You call it backing down, I call it conceding to the fact that arguing with people like you isn't even remotely productive. Although, I do find it amusing that you repeatedly try to make me appear egotistical, when I've, on two occasions in this same thread, commented on the mediocrity of my Black Mage.

You've been egotistical since you were a level 60 MNK talking down to fully meritted 75's.

Still, at least you admit you were silly back then, now just extend it to current times.

I don't know about everyone else but I don't do that whole 320/120 thing. >.> I like to put in some m.acc (coronal) and my results are great.

Well, if its an option for you, which, by looking at your signature, it would appear as if it was, I'd advise you to at least give it a shot at some point. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Then again, if what you're wearing now is producing results, I suppose its just a case of not-broken-don't-fix.

I've never done the 320/120 thing either, I've always preferred adding/removing skill as required.

i know you're going to answer that you can't give me specific numbers, but do you have a general rule of thumb you run by for a relationship between the ele mag you can discard per macc you add? if you assume them to be a roughly 1:1 ratio, then w/ an ele torque, i'd be looking at 316 skill on all but ice and 326 on ice. i would very plausibly be able to drop the ele torque for ice too and go pure offensive config sans the cape slot.

I know right? It's some crazy shit right there, what kind of lunatic would try to account for mob level variation?

Another thing I forgot to comment on was how whenever I get resisted the first piece I always swap in is af1+1 gloves, not af2 hat. Zenith mitts give no INT/Skill and so do absolutely nothing for resists, and those are always the first to go. BLM nuking head pieces all (except circlet) have INT on them at at least help somewhat with resists (af1+1 head, morrigan, demons+1) as well as up damage.

The generally accepted theory is 1 skill : .9 Macc.

The post above is the general accepted theory but I think they all have their own groupings. Someone posted a chart a bit ago explaining when INT and skill is better. I think regular "Magic Acc" doesn't have diminishing returns, or at least not a point where its better to swap INT for skill or vice versa. It'll help for either situation. Of course I have no concrete proof etc etc, but that is just what I do.

Links to what? Its not based on any testing, its just an assumption. Its not exactly something that's brought up very often, but when it is, people are generally split between "Macc is useless" and "1 Skill = .9 Macc".

And in its defense, if it doesn't have to do with Bards, magic formulas aren't very widely spoken about on BG.

That's not generally accepted then, is it?

Don't pull numbers out of the air without evidence kthx, unless you clarify it with 'in my opinion'
