cheaters vs. opportunists?

I have a question for you all concerning a situation I was presented with recently. I was in a party with some randoms, and after a couple of hours the BLM tells us that he can see our TP and will begin calling out weapon skills. Despite any arguments regarding his concern for efficiency or effectiveness regardless of the sacrifice of ethical principles blah blah blah, it felt like a blatantly idiotic lack of discretion on his part. How should this have been handled appropriately? I was going to start some /em kicks <t> down the stairs, but ... idk. I've just never ran into that before. Is this as crazy to u guys as it was to me?

It's obnoxious for the blm to call them out, yes. He should focus on doing his job and leave the melees alone.

Then again, if the melees were just spacing out and sitting on TP he should say something... but he should have done it in /tell. After all, he is always free to leave if he doesn't like how things are doing.

Is he a cheater for using Windower with TParty? Technically? Yes. Realistically? Maybe, could do much worse.

Just ignore it or look for a replacement and surprise him when said replacement shows up at camp ready to Exp! That's always fun.

In other words, don't get so worked up over it. The guy/gal obviously was trying to optimize the exp situation. If he was flaunting and being in asshole in other aspects, then I could see this being the icing on the cake. But if this is all s/he was guilty of, wear a laptop cooling pad as a hat.

Though, I'd report him for just being stupid and blurting out that he's using 3rd party, even though majority of the community uses the same program(s), we just have the tact and brains not to say it in game.

I don't know about my ffxi experience in comparison to yours, other than that it sounds like it's been 100x less APP aided. As far as a majority of the community using programs like that... well I didn't know that was the case, and I suppose that is the reason I asked.

I'd recommend doing a bit of research on what you're asking then. FFXI App =/= Windower, and if seeing my party or alliance's TP made me better at claiming Fafnir I'd be wearing Nhead.

Perhaps I'll begin my research by asking about it in a "FFXI: Newbie Advice and Standar Player Discussion" thread so I can get a better idea of how the community feels about the subject. That way the next time it comes up in-game I'll have a better idea of what the appropriate ranges of response are. Oh... wait.... I just did that.

Asking 'Is using the Windower considered cheating?' will get you a wide range of answers depending on where you ask it. Asking 'Is using the Windower the same as using FFXI-App?' will not.

This is the Newbie Player Advice forum, as you've already ascertained. In light of this, I made sure to remove posted responses to this thread that did not follow the rules of this particular forum, and also attempted to point out where your confusion on certain matters made the question you were asking not really work.

I hope that this little adventure has helped explain a number of things.

Yes I suppose it does. I'll stay in the shallow end of the pool for the time being. However, I think that those posts that you removed would have been an excellent source of knowledge.
