PoL Not Receiving Messages

I recently have been logging into PoL and seeing the message symbol on the top right toolbar flash green, but no number to indicate message received pops up. I open up the messages and I have nothing in my inbox.

It was to my surprise that I talked with a friend today and asked them about something and he said he already sent me a message about it. I didn't see the message symbol on the top right of FFXI, nor was there a message when I logged out to PoL.

I sent a message to him while logged out of the game, which he got and replied to. But I didn't get the reply.

Any ideas as to what's wrong?


EDIT: Also I cannot send messages from inside FFXI. I must log out to PoL to do so. I get "Fail to send. (19)" as an error when I try to send a message from Friend List in FFXI.

I used to have the same exact problem (forgot if it was ps2 or pc). But, the way I fixed it was reinstalling POL. After that, no more of those error or vanishing messages.
