Even the regular pots make a difference to yield depending on what you're growing. I started with 10x brass on one mule, 10x ceramic on one, and 10x earthen on 4, and there were noticeable and consistent differences in yield between the three types.

I think the most important thing about gardening is keeping detailed notes. That way you can go back and see how you can improve.

I was told by someone who makes all of her money through growing ores that the city matters as well. That different cities have different elemental strenghts? Sounds wacky, like facing X direction while crafting, but I don't know enough about growing things to say.

I know Pikko started tracking that, with the idea the color of their flag represents their element; I don't honestly recall if any sort of results one way or another ever showed with any info she has. May want to actually check her site (linked earlier) for that.

I have 8 gardening mules, and I only use porcelain pots.
I grow pretty much just ice ores, and NPC the leaves for about 21k per stack.
I have grown as many as 5 ice ores per mule, or sometimes none at all, but the leaves still NPC for at least 100k total profit per mule.
I prefer Ice Ore because even though they are cheap on the AH, the leaves which you get many of, you can NPC and there-for you never have any undercutting to worry about.
I find it to be a nice trickle of income.
I have experimented with every pot available and found porcelain to be the most versatile for me in terms of growing at least one of every ore successfully.
in my year of gardening, i have found that i get the best results from feeding ice crystals to the plants on firesday and harvesting on firesday on full moons. Could just be a fluke though.

*laughs* She only gardens in Windy as well, so you might have something there!

And the whole "feed X crystal on Y day when the moon is Z phase" is what kept me out of gardening for so long. I work a full time job, I can't feed things like that! So now I just feed/harvest whenever and hope for the best.

I had found that out about the silver leaves though, those are a nice thing to get when you don't get an ore.
